The Hurting is the debut studio album by British new wave band Tears for Fears, released on 7 March 1983. The album peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart in its second week of release, and was certified Gold by the BPI within three weeks of release. It reached Platinum status in January 1985. The album also entered the Top 40 in several other countries including Canada, Germany and Australia.
The Hurting is a loose concept album focusing on themes of child abuse, psychological trauma and depression. Despite its dark subject matter, the album was a huge commercial success. It contains Tears for Fears' first three hit singles – "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" – all of which reached the top five in the UK and the Top 40 internationally. It also contains a new version of the band's first single, "Suffer the Children", which had originally been released in 1981, while the album version of "Pale Shelter" is also a new recording.
The album was remastered and reissued in 1999, and included four remixes as bonus tracks and an extensive booklet with liner notes about the album's creation. A 30th anniversary reissue was released on 21 October 2013, in both double-CD and deluxe four-disc boxed set editions.

The band that became Quicksilver Messenger Program originally was conceived being a rock vehicle for folk singer/songwriter Dino Valente (b. Nov. 7, 1943, d. Nov 16, 1994), writer of “GATHER.” Surviving in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, Valente had discovered guitarist John Cipollina (b. Aug. 24, 1943, d. May 29, 1989) and vocalist Jim Murray. Valente’s friend David Freiberg (b. Aug. 24, 1938) became a member of on bass, as well as the group was finished with the addition of drummer Greg Elmore (b. Sep. 4, 1946) and guitarist Gary Duncan (b. Sep 4, 1946). Because the band had been come up with, Valente was imprisoned on the medication charge and he didn’t rejoin Quicksilver until afterwards. They debuted by the end of 1965 and performed across the Bay Region and the West Coastline for another two years, accumulating a large pursuing but resisting presents to record that were adopted by such SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA acid rock co-workers as Jefferson Aircraft and the Pleased Deceased. Quicksilver finally agreed upon to Capitol toward the finish of 1967 and documented their self-titled debut record in 1968 (by this time around, Murray had still left). Happy Paths, the 1969 follow-up, was documented live. Following its discharge, Duncan still left the music group and was changed for Shady Grove (1970) by United kingdom program pianist Nicky Hopkins. By enough time of its discharge, however, Duncan got returned, alongside Valente, producing the group a sextet. This edition of Quicksilver, prominently offering Valente’s tracks and lead vocals, lasted just a year, where two albums, Simply for Appreciate and HOW ABOUT Me, were documented. Cipollina, Freiberg, and Hopkins after that left, and the rest of the trio of Valente, Duncan, and Elmore employed replacements and lower another handful of albums before disbanding. There is a reunion in 1975, producing a brand-new album along with a tour, and in 1986 Duncan revived the Quicksilver name for an record that also highlighted Freiberg on history vocals.

Argent - Nexus [Japan Edition] (1974)

Label: Epic Records (Japan), EICP 1017
Style: Progressive Rock, Glam Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 42:07

Rodney Terence "Rod" Argent (born 14 June 1945) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Argent came to prominence in the mid 1960s as the founder and keyboardist of the English rock band the Zombies, and went on to form the band Argent after the first break-up of the Zombies.
Argent is one of the main composers of the Zombies' music and made major lyrical contributions to the band's songs. As the band's keyboardist he used a variety of instruments, including the Mellotron, the harpsichord, and the organ.
In addition to his work with the Zombies and Argent, Argent has made music for television series, been a session musician, produced albums by other artists, and has had a solo career which has included three studio albums: "Moving Home", "Red House", and "Classically Speaking." Argent was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Zombies in Brooklyn in March 2019.
EARLY YEARS
Argent was born in St Albans, Hertfordshire. As a child, he sang as a chorister in the St Albans Cathedral Choir. While at St Albans School, he met Paul Atkinson and Hugh Grundy. Argent, Atkinson, and Grundy first played together at a jam on Easter 1961 in St Albans.
Argent wanted to form a band and initially asked his cousin Jim Rodford to join as a bass guitarist. Rodford was playing in local band called the Bluetones at the time, so declined. Colin Blunstone and Paul Arnold joined the new band in early 1961, while all five members were still at school. Arnold left not long after and was replaced by Chris White. After the band won a local contest, they recorded a demo as their prize. Argent's song "She's Not There" got them a recording contract with Decca.
CAREER
The Zombies:
In addition to playing the piano and keyboards in the Zombies, Argent was (with White) one of the group's two main songwriters, penning the hits "She's Not There", "Tell Her No", and "Time of the Season", amongst others. Argent was initially the group's lead singer, with Blunstone on guitar. When Argent's keyboard talents became apparent, he became the group's full-time keyboard player, conceding the role of lead singer to Blunstone. The group continued to record through the 1960s, but disbanded in December 1967, reportedly over management disagreements.
Argent:
After the band broke up, Argent went on to form the band Argent, which had a hit album in 1972 with All Together Now, which contained the single "Hold Your Head Up". His Hammond B3 solo on that track is cited by Rick Wakeman as the greatest organ solo ever. The band also recorded the original version of the rock anthem "God Gave Rock and Roll to You", written by lead singer Russ Ballard, which was later covered by other artists including Petra and Kiss. Argent's first album included the song "Liar" (also composed by Ballard), which became a hit for Three Dog Night. In 1976, the band broke up.

Judie Tzuke - The End Of The Beginning (2004)

Year: 2004 (CD 2004)
Label: Big Moon Records (UK), EOTB001
Style: Pop Rock, Soft Rock, Folk Pop
Country: London, England (3 April 1956)
Time: 53:13
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 379 Mb

Tzuke's family relocated from Poland to England in the 1920s, and changed their surname from Tzuke to Myers, like other Jewish families from Eastern Europe. Her mother, Jean Silverside, was a television actress, and her father, Sefton Myers, was a successful property developer who also managed artists and singers-most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice during the writing of Jesus Christ Superstar. Tzuke preferred the original family name, started using it at school and so, when Tzuke embarked on her singing career, she used it as her stage name.
Educated in the visual arts, performing arts, and music, Tzuke performed in folk clubs from the age of 15. Her meeting with Mike Paxman in 1975 was a turning point and they began to collaborate. Under the name Tzuke & Paxo, they eventually secured a recording contract and the duo released a single, "These are the Laws", produced by Tony Visconti.
Tzuke's career as a solo artist began in 1977, when she signed to Elton John's label The Rocket Record Company. Her first single on Rocket, "For You", was released in 1978. Her only notable success, "Stay with Me till Dawn", was released in 1979. The song, which was co-written with Mike Paxman, became a top 20 hit on the UK Singles Chart in the summer of 1979 and a top 10 hit in Australia and was featured on Tzuke's 1979 debut album, Welcome to the Cruise, which was also a top 20 hit on the UK Albums Chart. In 2002, "Stay with Me till Dawn" was chosen by the British public in a poll of the 50 Best British Songs 1952–2002 (ranking at number 39). The song was also sampled by Mylo in the song "Need You Tonite", from his 2004 album Destroy Rock & Roll.
Tzuke's second album, Sports Car (1980), charted higher than her debut album (reaching No. 7 in the UK) and contained one single, "Living on the Coast", which failed to chart. Both albums were certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry in 1981. Tzuke became Elton John's support act for his North American tour, and she was the opening act in front of 400,000 people who turned out to watch his free concert at New York's Central Park on September 13, 1980. She went on to release one more album on Rocket, I Am the Phoenix (1981), which also made the UK top 20.

The Kinks - Low Budget [Japan Edition] (1979)

Year: 10 July 1979 (US), 7 September 1979 (CD 2010)
Label: Universal Music (Japan), UICY-25364
Style: Rock, Hard Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 59:35
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 413 Mb

the Kinks, influential 1960s British Invasion group who infused their rhythm-and-blues beginnings with sharp social observation and the theatricality of the British music hall, becoming an English archetype.
Formed as a rhythm-and-blues band in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies, the Kinks originated in Muswell Hill in northern London. Built on power chords, their third single, "You Really Got Me," provided their big break. It stands, along with the work of the early Rolling Stones, as a landmark of creative exploration of rhythm and blues by white musicians. As such, it had a huge influence on the early Who, mid-1960s American garage punk, and early 1970s heavy metal. Moreover, the Kinks exaggerated the androgynous image cultivated by the Rolling Stones with foppish clothes, extremely long hair, and Ray Davies’s often camp demeanour. After two more international hits, "All Day and All of the Night" and "Tired of Waiting for You," the Kinks quickly diversified their approach with the remarkable "See My Friends" (1965), an ambiguous story of male bonding, which represents the first satisfying fusion of Western pop with Indian musical forms. As their impact on the American market lessened after a disastrous tour in 1965, the Kinks became more idiosyncratically English, with social comment songs like "A Well-Respected Man," "Dedicated Follower of Fashion," and "Sunny Afternoon," the last of which reached number one on the U.K. charts in 1966 and on which Ray Davies imitated 1930s British crooner Al Bowlly.
At once a satirist and romantic, Ray Davies combined a knack for writing sweet melodies with witty, empathetic lyrics and an instantly distinctive vocal delivery. With his wife, Rasa, and brother Dave providing the high backing vocals, Ray delivered a trio of classics in 1966-67: "Dead End Street," which addressed poverty during the final days of the 1960s economic boom; "Big Black Smoke," a cautionary tale about a teenage runaway; and "Waterloo Sunset," a hymn to London that became the Kinks’ signature song. In 1967 Dave scored a solo success with "Death of a Clown," a memorable drinking song.
After 12 consecutive Top 20 singles in the United Kingdom, the Kinks started to slip in 1968 and spent the next two years attempting to rebuild their career in the United States by adapting to the new rock market with heavier instrumentation and elongated songs. They returned to the Top Ten on both sides of the Atlantic in 1970 with "Lola," the story of an encounter with a transvestite that capitalized on Ray’s theatrical persona. Several years as a top concert attraction in the United States followed, but Ray’s struggle to reverse bad business deals made in the early 1960s took its creative toll. After Everybody’s in Show-biz, Everybody’s a Star (1972), Ray Davies’s isolation-once so charming-had become curmudgeonly.
Energized by the punk rock they had influenced, the Kinks returned to rock with album successes in the United States such as Low Budget (1979). "Come Dancing" (1983), inspired by Davies family history, was a hit in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Thereafter, despite the departure of all the original members except the Davies brothers, the Kinks continued to record and perform until they disbanded in 1996. The Kinks were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
The Davies brothers both had solo careers, with Ray enjoying particular success. A one-man show based on his experimental memoir, X-Ray: The Unauthorized Autobiography (1995), led to the album The Storyteller (1998). His later studio albums included Other People’s Lives (2006) and Working Man’s Cafe (2007). On See My Friends (2010), he revisited hit Kinks songs with other artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Mumford & Sons, and Lucinda Williams. He published a second memoir, Americana, in 2013, and an album of the same title appeared in 2017. It was followed two years later by the album Our Country: Americana, Act II. Davies was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2004 and was knighted in 2017.

Lionel Hampton and Stan Getz - Hamp And Getz (1955)

Year: Recorded: August 1, 1955 (CD Oct 25, 1990)
Label: Verve Records, (Germany), 831 672-2
Style: Jazz, Bop, Cool Jazz
Country: Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. (1908) / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. (1927)
Time: 51:59
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 251 Mb

The Billboard review published at the end of December 1955 stated: "Hampton is the stronger spirit of the two, and under his spell, Getz plays a guttier, less inhibited horn than usual."[3] The Allmusic review awarded the album 4? stars, stating: "The cool tenor of Stan Getz and the extroverted vibraphonist Lionel Hampton might have seemed like an unlikely matchup but once again producer Norman Granz showed his talents at combining complementary talents... Classic music from two of the best".
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamp_and_Getz)

If one were to believe the cliches and stereotypes common in some jazz history books, this duo should not have worked. By 1955, Lionel Hampton was a veteran swing vibraphonist while Stan Getz was the leader of the "cool school" of young tenors. But what these two masters had in common (in addition to a healthy respect for each other's talents) was the ability to swing as hard as possible. Joined by a fine trio, the duo really rips into "Cherokee" and "Jumpin' at the Woodside" (listen to their blistering tradeoffs) and, even with a fine ballad medley, it is these torrid jams that make this a highly recommended LP.

The Rolling Stones - Live at The BBC (1963-1965)

Country: London, England

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. Active for six decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era. In the early 1960s, the Rolling Stones pioneered the gritty, heavier-driven sound that came to define hard rock. Their first stable line-up consisted of vocalist Mick Jagger, multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Bill Wyman, and drummer Charlie Watts. During their formative years, Jones was the primary leader: he assembled the band, named it, and drove their sound and image. After Andrew Loog Oldham became the group's manager in 1963, he encouraged them to write their own songs. Jagger and Richards became the primary creative force behind the band, alienating Jones, who had developed a drug addiction that interfered with his ability to contribute meaningfully.
Rooted in blues and early rock and roll, the Rolling Stones started out playing covers and were at the forefront of the British Invasion in 1964, also being identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s. They then found greater success with their own material as "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (1965), "Get Off of My Cloud" (1965) and "Paint It Black" (1966) became international No. 1 hits. Aftermath (1966) – their first entirely original album – is considered the most important of their formative records.[1] In 1967, they had the double-sided hit "Ruby Tuesday"/"Let's Spend the Night Together" and experimented with psychedelic rock on Their Satanic Majesties Request. They returned to their rhythm and blues roots with such hits as "Jumpin' Jack Flash" (1968) and "Honky Tonk Women" (1969), and albums such as Beggars Banquet (1968), featuring "Sympathy for the Devil", and Let It Bleed (1969), featuring "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Gimme Shelter". Let It Bleed was the first of five consecutive No. 1 albums in the UK.

Judie Tzuke - Shoot The Moon (1982)

Year: April 1982 (CD 2006)
Label: EMI Records (UK), 0946 3 57524 2 7
Style: Pop Rock, Soft Rock, Folk Pop
Country: London, England (3 April 1956)
Time: 54:48
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 353 Mb

The album peaked at no.19 on the UK Album Chart. All songs by Mike Paxman and Judie Tzuke, except where indicated.
Tzuke's family relocated from Poland to England in the 1920s, and changed their surname from Tzuke to Myers, like other Jewish families from Eastern Europe. Her mother, Jean Silverside, was a television actress, and her father, Sefton Myers, was a successful property developer who also managed artists and singers—most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice during the writing of Jesus Christ Superstar.

James Gang - Thirds (1971)

Year: April 1971 (CD 1990)
Label: One Way Records (U.S.), MCAD-22031
Style: Classic Rock, Rock, Hard Rock
Country: Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.
Time: 36:10
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 193 Mb

Thirds is the third studio album by the American rock band James Gang. The album was released in mid 1971, on the label ABC Records. It is the last studio album featuring Joe Walsh. "Walk Away" was released as a single, making the Top 40 on at least one national chart, reaching #51 on the Billboard Hot 100, the best placement of a James Gang single. The album reached Gold status in July 1972.
On the liner notes to the LP version of this 1971 album, Joe Walsh is credited with "guitar, vocals, and train wreck", the latter for his work on the song "Walk Away" as a wry commentary on the multi-tracked, cascading lead guitars that clash as the song fades out.
Writing for AllMusic, critic William Ruhlman wrote the album "though Thirds quickly earned a respectable chart position and eventually went gold, it was not the commercial breakthrough that might have been expected."
Billboard's review stated: "The James Gang has another good one here, another set scoring artistically and slated to score commercially. This hot trio has solid material, such as "Walk Away," country-flavored material such as "Dreamin' In The Country," and other top material, including "Midnight Man." "White Man/Black Man" is another winner." John Mendelsohn in Rolling Stone was equivocal stating "By no exertion of the imagination are James Gang the greatest rock and roll band ever to walk the face of the earth or anything... but they are capable of some nice little treats every now and again." Mendelsohn conversely called "White Man/Black Man" "a real no-two-ways-about-it embarrassment in the form of an overproduced plea for Greater Understanding between the races so that we can all Live Together.
