Tzuke's family relocated from Poland to England in the 1920s, and changed their surname from Tzuke to Myers, like other Jewish families from Eastern Europe. Her mother, Jean Silverside, was a television actress, and her father, Sefton Myers, was a successful property developer who also managed artists and singers-most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice during the writing of Jesus Christ Superstar. Tzuke preferred the original family name, started using it at school and so, when Tzuke embarked on her singing career, she used it as her stage name.
Educated in the visual arts, performing arts, and music, Tzuke performed in folk clubs from the age of 15. Her meeting with Mike Paxman in 1975 was a turning point and they began to collaborate. Under the name Tzuke & Paxo, they eventually secured a recording contract and the duo released a single, "These are the Laws", produced by Tony Visconti.
Tzuke's career as a solo artist began in 1977, when she signed to Elton John's label The Rocket Record Company. Her first single on Rocket, "For You", was released in 1978. Her only notable success, "Stay with Me till Dawn", was released in 1979. The song, which was co-written with Mike Paxman, became a top 20 hit on the UK Singles Chart in the summer of 1979 and a top 10 hit in Australia and was featured on Tzuke's 1979 debut album, Welcome to the Cruise, which was also a top 20 hit on the UK Albums Chart. In 2002, "Stay with Me till Dawn" was chosen by the British public in a poll of the 50 Best British Songs 1952-2002 (ranking at number 39). The song was also sampled by Mylo in the song "Need You Tonite", from his 2004 album Destroy Rock & Roll.
Tzuke's second album, Sports Car (1980), charted higher than her debut album (reaching No. 7 in the UK) and contained one single, "Living on the Coast", which failed to chart. Both albums were certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry in 1981. Tzuke became Elton John's support act for his North American tour, and she was the opening act in front of 400,000 people who turned out to watch his free concert at New York's Central Park on September 13, 1980. She went on to release one more album on Rocket, I Am the Phoenix (1981), which also made the UK top 20.

Amon Duul was a German art commune whose members began producing improvisational psychedelic rock music during the late '60s. The group's members released several albums, mostly recorded during a single extended jam session, beginning with 1969's Psychedelic Underground. Concurrently, some of the commune's more musically inclined members formed the longer-lasting Amon Duul II. Both acts proved to be a major influence on generations of experimental rock musicians to come, and are regarded as pioneers of the Krautrock genre.
Forming in Munich in 1967, the collective included bassist Ulrich Leopold, his brother Peter Leopold on drums, and guitarist Rainer Bauer. While the basic lineup recorded a session that year, an expanded lineup of Amon Duul recorded a marathon improvisation in 1968 or 1969, which subsequently formed the majority of the group's discography. Psychedelic Underground and Collapsing: Singvogel Ruckwarts & Co. were both released in 1969, and later reissued under several different titles. A 1970 recording session produced a more focused, folk-influenced full-length titled Paradieswarts Duul, which appeared the following year. Two additional recordings taken from the group's original session, 1972's Disaster (Luud Noma) and 1984's Experimente, were also released.
While membership within the commune and the band Amon Duul was fluid, several commune members with greater musical ambitions decided to start a separate rock group, and formed Amon Duul II -- they saw no reason to struggle for a new name, or argue over the original. The new group was helmed by John Weinzierl, Chris Karrer, and Renate Knaup-Kroetenschwanz, and set to work to produce an impressive debut with Phallus Dei (1969). This was followed quickly by the 1970 double album Yeti, the cover of which features one of the band's roadies.
1971 brought the release of another two-LP set -- Tanz der Lemminge ("Dance of the Lemmings"), a recording widely considered to be the keystone of the Amon Duul II catalog. With stylistic abandon, the album mixed together everything from straight-ahead rock to experimental noodling, all built around a series of science-fiction themes. The band performed with a joyfulness that belied the real seriousness of the experimental work involved.
They continued on this path for several years, continuing to release highly regarded albums that achieved only moderate sales, at best. 1975's Made in Germany (released in two-LP and single-LP versions) found the band making an attempt to present a more commercially appealing side, with little effect on the market. Continuing failure to crack the mainstream eventually brought the band back to its more experimental roots, though not before causing the core unit to fall moribund for a while.
A further spin-off, formed by John Weinzierl under the original name (and also known as Amon Duul UK and, rarely, as Amon Duul III) recorded sporadically in the 1970s and '80s. Weinzierl worked with former Hawkwind member Dave Anderson on a total of five albums (one of which, Airs on a Shoestring, was a compilation drawn from the first two, with additional material salted in), with additional bandmembers coming from all walks of the British progressive/psychedelic scene. For Losung, Weinzierl and Anderson collaborated with the late Robert Calvert, as well as drummer Guy Evans.
Amon Duul II reappeared during the '90s, producing a series of remixes and original material, as well as Live in Tokyo and the intriguing benefit album Kobe (Reconstruction), which focused on material from 1969 and 1971. Members continued to be active with both solo and band projects. EastWest Records Germany released a four-CD retrospective box set in 1997. The '90s renewed interest in Krautrock culminated with the re-release of three of the group's albums -- Wolf City, Yeti, and Viva la Trance -- in 1999. A 2010 reunion effort was digitally self-released under the name Bee as Such, and was eventually given a full release by Purple Pyramid under the name Duulirium in 2014.

Heartattack and Vine is the seventh studio album by Tom Waits, released on September 9, 1980, and his final album to be released on the Asylum label.
"On the Nickel" was recorded for the Ralph Waite film of the same name. It was later used as the theme song for the 1985 "The Atlanta Child Murders" miniseries. "Heartattack and Vine" was recorded again later by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. In 1993 this version was used without Waits' permission in a Levi's commercial, for which Waits took legal action and won a settlement. Jean-Luc Godard used "Ruby's Arms" in his 1983 film First Name: Carmen. Bruce Springsteen performed "Jersey Girl" live (and was joined onstage by Waits to sing it on August 24, 1981), including it in his retrospective "Live/1975–85".
Though critical of the album in many respects, including Waits' vocal delivery and the "morbid pathos" of the ballads, Stephen Holden of Rolling Stone wrote that "Tom Waits finds more beauty in the gutter than most people would find in the Garden of Eden," and referred to him as a "unique and lovable minor talent."

The Human Instinct are a New Zealand blues rock band that has been active since the late 1960s. The band has had more than 25 members and has changed lineups several times since its formation under the leadership of Maurice Greer.
They have released a total of seven albums and thirty singles. Their most recent album, Midnight Sun, was released October 2010.
The band is best known for their single "Black Sally" and their album Stoned Guitar, which features the Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar work of Billy Te Kahika, professionally known as Billy TK.
On their return to New Zealand, Greer was signed by Pye Records and entered Peach-Weymes Auckland ASTOR Studios to record their first blues-based album, Burning Up Years, which was released in late 1969. Three of the album’s seven songs were Harper compositions. (The single, "I Think I’ll Go Back Home", was a blues version of Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", but wrongly credited to Harper.)
During recording Barton was replaced on bass by Larry Waide.
Burning Up Years was recorded and mixed by staff engineers Gary Potts and Wahanui Wynyard.

Burning Up Years is the debut album by New Zealand blues-rock band The Human Instinct. It was released in 1969 and reissued on CD by Ascension Records in 2001.
The album's title track is a cover of a 1969 song by Birmingham progressive rock trio Hard Meat, whose original version was the B-side of their cover of The Beatles' "Rain".
"Blues News", "Fall Down", and "Ashes and Matches" were covers of unreleased demos recorded by New Zealand guitarist Doug Jerebine under his stage name, Jesse Harper. (Jerebine's original versions were belatedly released in the 1990s.)
Other cover versions on the album were The Kinks' "You Really Got Me", Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" (listed as "I Think I'll Go Back Home" and miscredited in the liner notes to Jesse Harper), and Ashton, Gardner & Dyke's "Maiden Voyage", misattributed to Maurice Greer.

Turning Stones is the title of the seventh album by the British singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke, released in April 1989. It peaked at no.57 on the UK Albums Chart and was Tzuke's last album to reach the UK Top 100 until 2018 when her collaboration with Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham, Woman to Woman, reached no.42 on the chart.
Turning Stones was Tzuke's only album to be released by Polydor Records. Disagreements between her and the label affected her subsequent 1989 concert tour which was cancelled at the last moment, and she left the label soon afterwards.

Christoph "Chris" Karrer (born 20 January 1947, Kempten, Germany) is a German guitarist and composer. He also plays oud, saxophone and violin. He is known as co-founder of the Amon Duul commune and a member of the related and much more commercially successful project Amon Duul II) and for his collaboration with Embryo.[1] With his band Amon Duul II he composed film music for Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Niklashauser Fart and Hans-Jurgen Syberberg's film San Domingo (Deutscher Filmpreis 1971 for film music).

Chris Karrer was one of the most important members of Amon Duul 2. In 1980 he published his first self-titled solo album. While this one was more or less prog pop (though somehow enjoyable to listen to), the following albums in the 90s were quite different and strongly influenced by Karrer's conversion to Sufism. They sound a lot like Embryo, and indeed Karrer was a member of Embryo for some time in the 90s.

Vol. 2 in the Lone Hill Jazz reissue label's Donald Byrd/Gigi Gryce Jazz Lab Project opens with three tracks that resulted from a planned college concert tour by the Jazz Lab and vocalist Jackie Paris, a native of Nutley, NJ, who also worked with Charlie Parker, Lionel Hampton, and Charles Mingus. While planning their tour, the team of Byrd, Gryce, and Paris conceived a didactic overview involving what Nat Hentoff described in the original liner notes as "some of the root channels of jazz with the blues as a primary linking element" but sketched "in broad chronological and stylistic skips." This explains the origin of "Early Morning Blues/Now, Don't You Know," a remarkable medley that begins with Paris strumming a banjo while scatting an old-time blues and shifts in midstream to a snappy cool bop variation based in that same blues tradition. The other two Paris vocals, "Early Bird" and "Elgy" (named for the initials of Donald Byrd's wife, Lorraine Glover), are firmly planted in the unmistakable musical persona of Charlie Parker. Jackie Paris made scandalously few recordings. These are among his very best. Everything on this disc was recorded during the late summer of 1957, a wonderfully transitional time in the evolution of jazz. Byrd and Gryce chose their rhythm sections most discerningly; the first three tracks were propelled by pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Wendell Marshall, and drummer Art Taylor, while tracks four through 12, which document the music presented as New Formulas from the Jazz Lab, brought in Paul Chambers and Hank Jones to fuel more progressive innovations. "Exhibit A" is particularly adventurous. Although the highly polished recordings presented by the Jazz Lab necessitated sometimes as many as eight aborted takes, only one complete alternate take is known to exist: it is the second version (actually take three) of "Ergo the Blues" heard here.

Defrosted is the second album by American rock band Frijid Pink. Released in the summer of 1970, the album is more blues-based hard rock than its predecessor, yet still contains the characteristic fuzz guitar sound featured prominently on the group's first album, Frijid Pink. This is the last album to feature Kelly Green (Tom Beaudry) and Gary Ray Thompson; their departure from the group soon followed, fueled by an ego-driven notion that 'they' were Frijid Pink. The band were on the brink of major success at that time, but this breach of contract essentially ruined their chances. The LP reached only #149 on U.S. charts, although the debut one reached #11; the track "Sing A Song For Freedom" as a single made #55 in the US in July 1970 and #22 in Canada that September where the LP reached #54. German CD release (1997, Repertoire Records) includes four bonus tracks taken from 1971 and 1972 singles.
Tom Beaudry aka Kelly Green did not play bass guitar on this album, only contributed the vocals. This caused confusion because the similarity of the names of the bassist Tom Harris and the vocalist Tom Beaudry, and the bass was credited to Beaudry, but Tom Harris played here and it appears in the album cover, also appears in 1970 TV shows playing "Sing A Song For Freedom".

Weinzierl worked with former Hawkwind member Dave Anderson on a total of five albums (one of which, Airs on a Shoestring, was a compilation drawn from the first two, with additional material salted in), with additional bandmembers coming from all walks of the British progressive/psychedelic scene. For Losung, Weinzierl and Anderson collaborated with the late Robert Calvert, as well as drummer Guy Evans.
Amon Duul II reappeared during the '90s, producing a series of remixes and original material, as well as Live in Tokyo and the intriguing benefit album Kobe (Reconstruction), which focused on material from 1969 and 1971. Members continued to be active with both solo and band projects. EastWest Records Germany released a four-CD retrospective box set in 1997. The '90s renewed interest in Krautrock culminated with the re-release of three of the group's albums -- Wolf City, Yeti, and Viva la Trance -- in 1999. A 2010 reunion effort was digitally self-released under the name Bee as Such, and was eventually given a full release by Purple Pyramid under the name Duulirium in 2014.

Soul Summit is an album by saxophonists Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt with organist Jack McDuff recorded in 1962 and released on the Prestige label.

Moontan is the ninth album by Dutch rock band Golden Earring, released in 1973. It contains the radio hit "Radar Love", and was voted 9th best Dutch pop album ever by readers of music magazine Oor in 2008. In the Q & Mojo Classic Special Edition Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock, the album came #32 in its list of "40 Cosmic Rock Albums". Moontan is the band's most successful album in the United States, being the only Golden Earring album to be certified Gold by the RIAA.
