Bodkin - Bodkin (1972)

Year: 1972 (CD 1991)
Label: World Wide Records (Germany), W&W 001
Style: Hard Rock, Heavy Prog
Country: Scotland, UK
Time: 39:02
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 206 Mb

BODKIN were a Scottish quintet that released a self-titled album in 1972. They made a classic-sounding, rough-edged heavy progressive rock with the emphasis on Doug Rome's Hammond organ and complimented by Mick Riddle's guitar, Bill Anderson's bass, Dick Sneddon on drums and the cool wailing of Zeik Hume.
Somewhat more jam-oriented than contemporaries such as ATOMIC ROOSTER or URIAH HEEP and not quite as hard-hitting, BODKIN nevertheless delivered spirited rock music with energetic interplay between guitar and organ, fine musicianship, and distractingly good compositions from the 21 year-old Doug Rome.
A very palatable blend of dark organ-rock and dirty blues, Bodkin will surely please listeners interested in the murky and mysterious early years of the Heavy Prog scene and anyone seeking rare prog.

The Pretty Things - Freeway Madness (Japan Edition) (1972)

Year: December 1972 (CD 2006)
Label: Warner Bros. Records (Japan), POCE 1004
Style: Psychedelic Rock, Classic Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 70:11
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 469 Mb

The Pretty Things was an English rock band formed in September 1963 in Sidcup, Kent, with their name from Willie Dixon's 1955 song "Pretty Thing". They pioneered a raw approach to rhythm and blues (and later, psychedelia) that influenced a number of key bands of the 1960s British 'invasion', particularly The Rolling Stones, and David Bowie whose first hero was Phil May (born 1944; died 2020). The band did their final tour in 2018.
The Pretty Things was preceded by Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys which consisted of Dick Taylor, fellow Sidcup Art College student Keith Richards, and Mick Jagger. When Brian Jones joined Little Boy Blue and the Blues Boys as guitarist, Taylor was pushed from playing guitar to bass and the Rolling Stones were formed.
Several months later Dick Taylor (born Richard Clifford Taylor, 28 January 1943, in Dartford, Kent) quit the newly formed Rolling Stones to pursue his schooling when he was accepted at London Central School of Art, where he met up with Phil May (born Phillip Arthur Dennis Kattner, on 9 November 1944, in Dartford, Kent: died 15 May 2020) and they formed Pretty Things.
Taylor was once again playing his preferred guitar with May singing and playing harmonica. They recruited Brian Pendleton (born 13 April 1944 in Wolverhampton–died 16 May 2001 in Maidstone, Kent) on rhythm guitar; John Stax (born John Edward Lee Fullegar, 6 April 1944 in Crayford, Kent) on bass; and, after trying a couple of different drummers, including Pete Kitley and Viv Andrews, stuck with Viv Prince (born Vivian St John Prince, 9 August 1944, in Loughborough, Leices).

Glass Hammer - Three Cheers for the Broken-Hearted (2009)

Year: November 3, 2009 (CD 2009)
Label: Arion Records (USA), SR 2624
Style: Progressive Rock, Progressive Pop
Country: Chattanooga, Tennessee, U.S.
Time: 51:49
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 344 Mb

Glass Hammer is a progressive rock band from Chattanooga, Tennessee. They formed in 1992 when multi-instrumentalists Steve Babb (then known as "Stephen DeArqe") and Fred Schendel began to write and record Journey of the Dunadan, a concept album based on the story of Aragorn from J.R.R. Tolkien"s The Lord of the Rings. To their surprise, the album sold several thousand units via the Internet, TV home shopping, and phone orders, and Babb and Schendel were convinced that the band was a project worth continuing.
While many musicians have appeared on Glass Hammer albums over the years, Babb and Schendel have remained the core of the band. Both men play a variety of instruments, but Babb mainly concentrates on bass guitar and keyboards while Schendel also plays keyboards as well as various guitars and drums (until the addition of live drummer Matt Mendians to the studio recording band in 2004). They also sing, although a number of other vocalists (most notably Michelle Young, Walter Moore and Susie Bogdanowicz) have also handled lead vocal duties.
Lyrically, Glass Hammer is inspired mostly by their love of fantasy literature (most notably Tolkien and C. S. Lewis) and by their Christian faith. Although by their own admission they have tried to avoid becoming an overtly Christian band, their 2002 release Lex Rex was a concept album based on a Roman soldier"s encounter with Jesus.
Musically, their most apparent influences are Yes, Kansas, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and, to a less noticeable extent, Genesis. While Glass Hammer has, for the most part, combined those influences into a characteristic style of their own, they made much more direct references to the aforementioned bands on their 2000 album Chronometree, which told the story of a drug-addled progressive rock fan who becomes convinced aliens are speaking to him through the music he listens to.

Saturnalia - Magical Love (1973)

Year: 1973 (CD 1992)
Label: World Wide Records (Germany), SPM-WWR-CD-0042
Style: Progressive Rock, Folk Rock
Country: UK
Time: 38:56
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 222 Mb

SATURNALIA was an obscure Brittish psychedelic band, leaving only one studio album as a target for the collectors of psychdelic rock albums. The record "Magical Love" was produced by Keith Relf (from RENAISSANCE and YARDBIRDS), and it was released year 1969. Later there have been reissues done for example by Italian Akarma label. The album contains slightly occult themed psychedelic early progressive rock, resembling JEFFERSON AIRPLANE with their similar male/female double vocal concept and US West Coast psych guitar tones. The singers were Adrian Hawkins and Aletta, guitar was played by Rod Roach and the rhythm section had Richard Houghton on bass guitar and Tom Crompton playing the drums. Another comparison for the occult themed progressive rock album with male/female vocals could be BLACK WIDOW's "Return to The Sabbath", the first deleted and later reissued version of their "Sacrifice" album. The definite versions of "Magical Love" album has a 28-page booklet about the astrology, which was a strong element to the players doing this record. Certainly a nice and recommendable obscurity for the album collecttors for the fans of mentioned themes.

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Early Classics 1962-67 (1996)

Year: November 3, 2009 (CD 2009)
Label: Karussell Records (Europe), 552117-2
Style: Oldies, Funk, Soul
Country: Detroit, Michigan, U.S. (1957–1972)
Time: 46:14
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 286 Mb

One of Motown Records' earliest and most exciting vocal groups, Martha and The Vandellas achieved  two Top Ten hits before the ascendancy of The Supremes. Driven by Martha Reeves' soulful, brassy lead vocals, the Vandellas became Motown's earthier, more aggressive "girl group" alternative to the Supremes.
Martha Reeves, one of eleven children, was born in Eufaula Alabama on July 18, 1941. She moved with her parents Ruby and Elijah to Detroit, Michigan before her first birthday. Reeves spent most of her childhood singing and working in her grandfather's church. She attended Russell Elementary on Detroit's eastside and was taught vocals by Emily Wagstaff. Northeastern High School was where she studied voice under the direction of Abraham Silver, who also coached Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Bobby Rogers of the Miracles.
After graduating from high school in 1959, Reeves joined the girl group called the Fascinations. They recorded their first record about 1960, backing Mike Hanks on "The Hawk" on Mah's Records. They also backed Leon Peterson on "I Know You Know" on the Bobbin label in 1962. Their first big break was working with local singer J.J. Barnes on "Won't You Let Me Know." The 1962 single on Rich Records credited both Barnes and the Del-Phis and led to the answer record "Ill Let You Know" on Check-Mate. In the late summer of 1960 Reeves met Rosalind Ashford and they were invited to join Annette Sterling and Gloria Williamson in the Del-Phis. After doing some local talent shows and jobs they recorded a single on Chess-Mate Records, a subsidiary of Chess Records in 1961. The Del-Phi"s recording that didn't make the charts was "My Baby Won't Come Back".
Reeves as a solo entered and won a talent contest. The prize was a three day engagement at the Twenty Grand, a local nightclub where she sang as Martha LaVaille. On her last night, William "Mickey" Stevenson, an A&R and Berry Gordy's right-hand man at Motown Records, approached Reeves, after hearing her sing, and gave her his card. In 1961 Reeves was hired as his secretary. One day Motown head Berry Gordy needed background singers in short order for a session; Reeves and her friends, Ashford and Beard, were called in. They sang behind Marvin Gaye on "Stubborn Kind of Fellow," his first hit in 1962 and "Hitch Hike."
A couple months later, Reeves again found her self in the right place at the right time. Stevenson had called over to the studio, where a union rep was checking to make sure the label was following the rule that a singer had to be on a mic when tracks were recorded. In Mary Well's absence, Reeves sang "I'll Have To Let Him Go, impressing Stevenson enough ask the Del-Phis to record "You'll Never Cherish A Love So True ('Til You Lose It)." The session was a success, but Gloria decided she didn't want to leave her job and left the group. The single was issued anyway on Mel-O-Dy as by the Vells.
The rest of the group convinced Gordy that they were staying as a trio. Gordy then asked the girls to come up with a new name. They then called themselves Martha and the Vandellas, taking their name from Detroit street Van Dyke and Reeve's favorite singer Della Reese before recording "I'll Have to Let Him Go."

The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle (Japan Edition) (1968)

Year: 19 April 1968 (CD May 26, 2004)
Label: Imperial Records (Japan), TECI-21220
Style: Rock, Psychedelic Pop
Country: St Albans, Hertfordshire, England
Time: 73:30
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 348 Mb

The Zombies were formed in 1961 by students Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson and Hugh Grundy. They later brought in bassist Paul Arnold, who in turn brought in Colin Blunstone as lead singer. They first called themselves The Mustangs, then The Sundowners, before finally settling on The Zombies. The band began its musical career performing 1950s rock standards at various clubs, dances and other venues, which was common for young rock bands at the time.
Arnold decided that he really didn't want a musical career (he eventually became a doctor) and left the band, to be replaced by Chris White. The band began gathering a following in mid-1962 in the St. Albans area. In 1963 they were approaching college age and began to discuss breaking up, as several members were thinking about going to university. That same year they entered a rock contest in which first prize was a recording contract with Decca Records. They made the finals and, even before the winner was chosen, they impressed Decca executives so much that they were offered a contract anyway (as it turned out, they actually did win the contest). In 1963 they began recording for Decca. The producer assigned by the label to work with them heard a song written by Argent, "She's Not There", and strongly pushed for it to be released as the group's first single. It became an immediate smash. It was played on a British music show, Juke Box Jury (1959)--a British version of Bandstand (1952)--and, as it happened, George Harrison of The Beatles was on the panel that week and loved the song. It wasn't long before the record shot to #1 on the US pop charts.
The next single, "Leave Me Be", didn't do particularly well, but their following one, "Tell Her No", made the Top 10 in the US (although, for some reason, it was only a minor hit in Britain). The band toured the US with such artists as Patti LaBelle, The Shirelles and Ben E. King, among others. As successful as they were in the US, they were an even bigger hit in Asia (in The Philippines they once had five records in the Top 10 at the same time).
In 1965 the band did the soundtrack for the film Исчезнувшая Банни Лейк (1965), and made a brief appearance in the film as themselves. Unfortunately, the film was not successful. In addition, the records they were putting out didn't sell well. The band also began having problems with Decca, which they believed wasn't letting them do the kind of music they wanted to do, and they eventually split from the label. They were signed by CBS Records, for which they recorded the album "Odessey and Oracle", which was finished at The Beatles' Abbey Road Studios in 1967. After the album was done, the band broke up. Although CBS didn't want to release an album by a band that no longer existed, CBS staff producer Al Kooper--the founder of Blood Sweat & Tears--finally persuaded them to release it, and it came out in July of 1968. The first single from the album, "Care of Cell 44", didn't do particularly well, and neither did the next two tracks that were released as singles. The label agreed to release one more cut off the album as a single, and no more. That cut was "Time of the Season". It went nowhere in the UK, but a radio station DJ in the US was entranced by it and kept playing it over and over. It began to catch on, and by late 1968 it had cracked the Top Five charts in the US. Although CBS wanted the band to re-group for more albums and concert promoters offered the band enormous sums of money to re-form and tour, by this time the band had already been broken up for a year--by which time Rod Argent and Chris White had already formed the band Aster Argent and Colin Blunstone had embarked on a solo career--and the members declined. They did reunite in 1991 to record the album "New World", but it was never released in the US (where the band was always a bigger draw than they were in the UK). On November 25, 1997, all of the original band members reunited on stage at The Jazz Club in London and played live together for the first time in almost 30 years. Three years later Rod Argent and Bluntone began touring together. Although they used their individual names, promoters began to bill them as The Zombies, and the duo eventually went along with it.
Paul Atkinson, who had retired as a performer and began a career as an A&R man, died in Santa Monica, Califonria, on April 1, 2004.

Band History eng:]The Phantom of the Opera is a stage musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber (who co-wrote the libretto alongside Richard Stilgoe) and lyrics by Charles Hart. It is based on the 1910 eponymous French novel by Gaston Leroux.
The plot revolves around a beautiful soprano, Christine Daae, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, masked musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opera House.
The musical opened in London's West End in 1986 and on Broadway in 1988. It won the 1986 Olivier Award and the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical, and Michael Crawford (in the title role) won the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. It is currently the longest running show in Broadway history, and celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance on 11 February 2012, the first production ever to do so. It is the second longest-running West End musical, after Les Miserables, and the third longest-running West End show overall, after The Mousetrap. A film adaptation directed by Joel Schumacher was released in 2004.
With total estimated worldwide gross receipts of over $6 billion and total Broadway gross of over $1 billion, Phantom was the most financially successful entertainment event until The Lion King surpassed it in 2014. By 2011, it had been seen by over 130 million people in 145 cities across 27 countries.

Band History eng:]Led Zeppelin was already a ‘supergroup’ of sorts when they first formed in 1968, set up by former Yardbirds guitarist Jimmy Page. The story goes that they were originally going to be called The New Yardbirds until The Who’s notorious drummer, Keith Moon remarked they would go down like a “lead zeppelin”.
Between 1971 and 1975 the band held justifiable claim to be crowned the biggest in the world, spurred on by the infamy of their live shows. The group increasingly resisted television appearances, enforcing their preference that their fans experience them live, in person. Songs like “Black Dog”, “Communication Breakdown”, “Dazed And Confused”, “Good, Times, Bad Times”, “Rock And Roll”, “Heartbreaker”, “Kashmir” and the universal “Stairway To Heaven” made them one of the most sought-after live bands of their time.

Small Faces - There Are But Four Small Faces (U.S. version) (1968)

Year: 17 March 1968 (CD 1991)
Label: Immediate Records (U.S.), AK 47895
Style: Rock, Mod
Country: London, England
Time: 35:33
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 209 Mb

There Are But Four Small Faces is a studio album by British rock group Small Faces, released on 17 March 1968 through Immediate Records and distributed by CBS Records. It was the band's first album release in the United States, and acts as an alternative version for overseas release of the Immediate album Small Faces, which came out earlier the same year. There Are was issued around the same time as the group's single "Lazy Sunday".
The album omitted "Something I Want to Tell You", "Feeling Lonely", "Happy Boys Happy", "Things Are Going to Get Better", "Become Like You", "All Our Yesterdays" and "Eddie's Dreaming", which were all found on the Small Faces album in the United Kingdom. Since these tracks weren't featured on another album issued in the US at the time, they became rare collectibles until Sire Records issued a double album titled The Immediate Story in 1975. On CD, these tracks were issued on deluxe editions of Small Faces in the 1980s.
These tracks were substituted by the singles "Here Come the Nice", "Itchycoo Park" and "Tin Soldier", all of which had seen releases as singles in both the US and the UK to various success. The album also features the B-Sides "I'm Only Dreaming" and "I Feel Much Better", which backed "Itchycoo Park" and "Tin Soldier" respectively.
There Are remains the sole Small Faces album that was released exclusively in North America; the follow-up Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake remains the same as the UK issue, although with lacking sound quality. Faces' debut album First Step is credited to Small Faces on its USA release, but credited to Faces in the UK; however, the track listings on both these releases are the same (although there are brief edits to two tracks on the USA version).
Upon its initial release, the record failed to reach the charts; however, it charted very briefly after the song "Itchycoo Park" was a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1968. The album consequently became a moderate success, managed to reach the Billboard 200 for three weeks, and peaked at number 178 in March 1968. It was the first of two Small Faces albums to chart in the US; the other one was Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake which reached number 159.
During the success of "Itchycoo Park", stickers stating 'Includes Itchycoo Park' were added to the album sleeve, something that hadn't been present on earlier pressings. The album was published in Venezuela in the year 1968 on the Odeon label. This version had a remarkably different running order than the versions released in the US, most notably the inclusion of "Lazy Sunday", a single released in April 1968.

Caravan - If I Could Do It All Over Again [Vinyl Rip] (1970)

Style: Canterbury Scene, Art Rock
Country: Canterbury, Kent, England
Time: 47:52
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz

Caravan are an English rock band from the Canterbury area, founded by former Wilde Flowers members David Sinclair, Richard Sinclair, Pye Hastings, and Richard Coughlan in 1968. The band have never achieved the great commercial success that was widely predicted for them at the beginning of their career, but are nevertheless considered a key part of the Canterbury scene of progressive rock acts, blending psychedelic rock, jazz, and classical influences to create a distinctive sound.
The band were originally based in Whitstable, Kent, near Canterbury, but moved to London when briefly signed to Verve Records. After being dropped by Verve, the band signed to Decca Records, where they released their most critically acclaimed album, In the Land of Grey and Pink, in 1971. Dave Sinclair left after the album's release and the group split up the following year. Hastings and Coughlan added new members, notably viola player Geoffrey Richardson, continuing on before splitting in 1978.
The band reformed several times in the following decades, and Caravan still remain active as a live band in the 21st century, despite Coughlan's death in December, 2013.

Larry Williams - Here's Larry Williams - The Specialty Rock'n'Roll Recordings (1959)

Year: 1959 (CD June 15, 2010)
Label: HooDoo Records (Europe), 263365
Style: Oldies, Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues
Country: New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. (May 10, 1935 - January 7, 1980)
Time: 56:33
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 279 Mb

One of the great R&B long-players of the '50s, Here's Larry Williams collects nearly all of the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter's key work ("Bad Boy" and 1967's "Mercy Mercy Mercy" are the only truly essential tracks missing), and a bunch of smokin' obscurities besides. Listening to these tracks, it's clear why John Lennon was such a huge Larry Williams fan; his rough-and-ready no-bull voice is elastic enough to move from a Little Richard trill to a Ray Charles growl, and songs like "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" and "Short Fat Fannie" are raucous enough to be punk rock nearly a full two decades before the concept was even in existence. Of the lesser-known tracks, the giddy Buddy Holly-meets-Richard Berry "You Bug Me, Baby" and the salacious "Little School Girl," featuring a good and greasy sax solo, are the highlights; on the downside, "Ting A Ling" is as slight and tossed-off as its title, and the intrusive female chorus that sounds like it made the wrong turn from the Rosemary Clooney session down the hall is just plain awful.
(allmusic.com. Review by Stewart Mason)

Williams was born in new York city. New Orleans in 1935. At a young age Williams and his family went West and spent some time together with relatives in Chicago before you join your parents in the Bay area San Francisco in 1945. He grew up in Auckland, a city that then flourished at the expense of the military. Larry became interested in music as a teenager and eventually joined a group, which was named Lemon Drops.
A little rough and even "reckless" rock and roll singer Larry Williams had several hits in the late 50s, several of which are "Boney Maroni", "dizzy, miss Lizzy", "Fat Shorty", "Bad boy", "Her". Said Yeah " - became a real rock and roll classic and was recorded by British bands Invasion. John Lennon was a fan Williams, having recorded several of his songs over the course of his career.
Early career of Larry Williams:
As a child in the New In Orleans, Williams learned to play the piano. When he was a teenager, he moved with his family to Oakland, California California, where he joined a local R&B group called Lemon Drops. In 1954, when he it was 19 years old Williams returned to New Orleans. During the trip , he met Lloyd price, his cousin, who recorded for Specialty Records.
Fortunately for Williams, New New Orleans of that era was great location for landing a young musician. Working on various temporary gigs in anticipation of a big break, he began to build your own network by connecting with a whole host of future great musicians, including a drummer Earl Palmer and the owner of a local Studio Cosimo Matassa. Williams has succeeded great success finally, after Price returned from his call of duty and fell out with the owner Specialty By Art Roop. Roop, who was in a hurry sign a contract with someone who could fill the void left behind Price and little Richard quickly directed Williams to the Studio to record the single.
Immediately after Specialty signed a contract with Larry Williams , Specialty lost little Richard, who was their biggest star and guaranteed hit maker. Little Richard decided to give up rock ' n ' roll for Ministry shortly after Williams released his first single, a cover of the song The "Just because" price list with the support group Richard. In spring 1957 song" Just because " reached # 11 on the R&b charts. After Richard left the band, the label put all of its energy into creating the band. Williams - a star, changed your image and provided him with a set of materials - from a hard drive R&B and rock ' n ' roll to ballads (which was very similar to hits Richard).
Williams ' first single after Little Richard was the raucous "Short Fat Fannie", which is in summer Since 1957 it reached number one on the R&B and number five on the pop charts. In the fall, it was followed by "Bony Moronie", which reached number four on the R&B and pop charts. 14th place in the pop charts. But Williams couldn't maintain that level. His next two singles are " You Bug Me, Baby " and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" failed to chart R&B, and became minor pop hits in late 1957 and early 1970. In 1958. Despite the relative failure of these singles, the LPS Williams ' works have become popular imported works in Britain. The The Beatles would cover both sides of " Dizzy miss Lizzie " (side B was "Slow Down") in the mid - ' 60s. But the commercial state Williams in America it kept falling despite the fact that Specialty released a steady stream of singles and one full-length album.
In 1959 Williams was arrested for selling drugs, and Specialty fired him from the record company. During the '60s , he went through several labels in the early ' 60s, recording songs for Chess, Mercury, Island, and Decca. By the mid - '60s, he had hooked up with johnny "Guitar" Watson, and the Duo recorded several sides for OKeh Records in the mid and late ' 60s, including Top 40 hits R&B "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy "(spring, 1967) and "Nobody", recorded with The kaleidoscope (early 1968). In 1966 Williams also became a producer OKeh Records, although very few of his compositions became hits.
From 1968 to 1978, Williams was inactive, recording nothing, and performing very little. funk album " This is Larry Williams " for Fantasy Records, but he it didn 't sell well and I got bad reviews. In 1980 Williams was found dead at his home in Los Angeles. He died of gunshot wound to the head. Medical examiners called the death a suicide, but for years after his death , rumors swirled that he had been murdered because of his drug involvement crimes and, presumably, prostitution.
