For their third live album, Santana introduced a new bass player, Myron Dove, and added guitarist Jorge Santana (Carlos Santana's brother), and singer Vorriece Cooper to bring the band up to nine members. Adopting the mantle of Bob Marley, the band played "Esperando," which borrowed Marley's characteristic audience chant. Much of the album, however, is given over to repeating Santana's earliest hits -- "No One to Depend On," "Black Magic Woman," "Soul Sacrifice," -- which should please the band's new record label (it's always good to have versions of the hits in your catalog), but which makes the album inessential for fans. Sacred Fire spent one week at number 181 in the charts, the worst performance ever for a Santana album.

When you’re already a member of one of rock ’n’ roll’s most legendary, successful bands, odds are you don’t get the urge to make a solo album unless you have something to say.
The past few years have been rather bumpy ones for Ronnie Wood, who hit some turbulence in his personal life only to see it parodied by the tabloid press. It wouldn’t be all that far-fetched, then, to think he may want to get some things off his chest through his music. Not that the Rolling Stones guitarist should need a reason to record a solo album; his seventh and latest such release, I Feel Like Playing (Eagle Records), is fantastic.
A venerable slate of guest and backing musicians make appearances throughout, including Slash, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, and Bobby Womack. Also on hand are vocalist Bernard Fowler and bassist Darryl Jones—both men stalwarts of the Stones touring entourage—giving Wood some of the comforts of home even while he’s out on his own.
For his part Wood sounds invigorated, with his raspy, Dylanesque singing on rambunctious cuts like “Thing About You” and “I Don't Think So” betraying a kind of precocious, little-boy-inside-a-man enthusiasm. Things get even funkier on “Fancy Pants,” a modish ode to British men’s sartorial excess set to a raunchy, thick-riffed groove.
It’s not all roguish mischief and bravado, however, as “I Gotta See” features Wood and Fowler engaging in a soulful, near call-and-response duet that gives the song a gospel resonance. Wood turns strikingly tender and compelling, though, on “Why You Wanna Go and Do A Thing Like That For,” his grim vocal betraying the fragility of a heartbroken man.
In the end, though, whether or not I Feel Like Playing is Ronnie Wood's way of working through some things doesn't matter as much as how good of an album he has made.

Gryphon are an English progressive and medieval folk rock band formed in London in 1972. They are known for their medieval and Renaissance style of music. The band briefly flourished in the progressive rock heyday of the early 1970s.

Gryphon formed in early 1972 as a four-piece band by English musicians Graeme Taylor, Richard Harvey, Dave Oberle, and Brian Gulland. Harvey and Gulland were graduates of the Royal College of Music in London who started an acoustic band, using their classically trained backgrounds to perform a mixture of English folk music, contemporary rock, medieval and Renaissance music. The duo were joined by guitarist Graeme Taylor and drummer Dave Oberle shortly after, thus becoming the first line-up of Gryphon. They soon signed a recording deal with the folk label Transatlantic Records and secured Nick Wright as their manager. The band's first live gig took place at the Stone Parish Church in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, promoted by the town's Friars venue. Their publicist Martin Lewis described their sound: "Imagine Henry VIII in a rock'n'roll band - think Gryphon."

In 1983, after an enduring love affair with UFO, a brief flirtation with Ozzy, and a frustrated liaison with Fastway, bass player extraordinaire Pete Way founded Waysted. Around him, he assembled a shit hot band… Fin Muir on vocals, Paul Raymond (UFO) on keyboards, Ronnie Kayfield on guitar, and Frank Noon on drums.
The band’s debut, Vices, has now been reissued by Rock Candy Records, in remastered form (with 6 bonus tracks). And it’s a blast.
Paralleling the rise of Glamrock and Hair Metal, it was an album that tried to bridge the gap between the honest hard rock of the seventies and the burgeoning bandana rock of the early eighties, accidently creating sleaze rock in the process.
It roams the cellars and basements of the down’n’dirty denizens of subterranean rock’n'roll, feeling its way through smoky, sweaty rooms, howling and wailing in among the cranked up electric guitars and thudding drums. Mick Glossop’s unpolished production lets the raw, unadulterated hard rock do the talking.
Kayfield is clearly the driving force, pushing the music along with simple, spare riffs or embellishing it with clanging guitar motifs and wiry axe work. The first three tracks, the strutting ‘Love Loaded’, the dark and downbeat ‘Women In Chains’ and the jangling, pacy ‘Sleazy’ are the picks. That said, ’Night Of The Wolf’, full of smouldering atmospherics and NWOBHM energy, and ’Right From The Start’, a bluesy, Faces like manifestation of post seventies hard rock, aren’t far behind.
Half a dozen remixes, done at Maison Rouge Studios, giving the songs much more of a seventies’ hard rock feel, have been added to the original album as bonus tracks, and are a genuine ‘find‘, worth hearing in their own right. Surprisingly, given its provenance and critical acclaim, Vices failed to gain traction in Europe or the US. Listen and wonder.

Friends is the sixth and final studio album by Australian rock band the Easybeats. It was released in early 1970 as part of the group's new recording contract with Polydor Records. It would be the only album Polydor released of the band as they broke up before its release.
In a contemporary review The Sun Herald's Gil Wahlquist noted the "commercial English sound" of the album and that "everything is energy and vocal power from the opening "St. Louis" through to "Woman, You're On My Mind"". In an article in Go-Set, singer Stevie Wright noted the band were disappointed in the Ray Singer's production of the lead single St. Louis, saying "It ended up nothing like we envisaged it" and that they wanted it more "funky with lots of ad-libs".
Retrospective reviews have been less kind to the album. Pointing out the short comings of the demo recordings. AllMusic's Ritchie Unterberger noted that " The least successful songs are the forced rock & roll boogies, with overwrought vocals from lead singer Stevie Wright. The more pensive tracks, like the title tune, have an oddly compelling, hollow feel of resignation bordering on gloom that starkly contrasts with their more well-known mid-'60s material."

Singer Kim McAuliffe and drummer Denise Dufort still form the core of Girlschool. Fresh, new blood and an update on the sound has been given by the new lead guitarist Jackie Chambers and bass player Enid Williams. Chambers, in particular, is credited on each song on Believe. Three of the songs “Come On Up,” “Crazy,” and “Never Say Never” are penned by the newcomers, and the rest are from the pens of varied combinations of Kim, Jackie, and Enid. Both of the bonus tracks are credited to the entire band and they are closest to the sound of the original Girlschool Play Around, in particular.
Believe has a total of thirteen tracks, which are all sing-along rockers that most likely will go down in a storm in a live situation. Kim McAuliffe’s raspy vocals still pack a punch and Enid is not doing a bad job herself. They both definitely rock. Kim’s vocals are more raspier while Enid’s vocal are more feminine.
Girlschool still carry the same enthusiasm they’ve always had, along with the slightly Punkish feel not far from the Ramones, but only prettied up. The only weak point in some of their songs are the shortcuts they have taken with the lyrics, or more precisely the constant repetition of choruses, which is close to overkill. “We All Love To (Rock ‘n’ Roll),” in particular, competes for the title of one of the corniest lyrics ever. This song was probably made with the Germans and drunk crowds in mind.
The opener, “Come On Up,” packs a beat that is guaranteed to get your foot tapping. “Let’s Get Hard” starts with a riff Poison could have come up with for sure. The vocals are dirty, suggestive, and even commanding at times. Jackie gets one of her many chances to display her skills on guitar. “Crazy” reeks desperation before breaking into a big airy choir part. “We All Love To (Rock’n’ Roll)” runs away with the groove before stumbling across the corny chorus. There’s still a cool continuing Punky feel underneath the song. The chorus is definitely idiot proof. “Secret” has a mysterious feel. “New Beginning” starts with an interplay between Jackie’s guitar and Denise’s drums. “C’mon” plays with a distorted vocals effect. All the songs are packed with killer choruses and grooves that will win you over if you give them half a chance. Granted, some of the songs like “C’mon” do drag on a bit, and some could have used more content lyric-wise, but still, songs like “Never Say Never” and “Come On Up” show that these Ladies still do pack a powerful slap. Besides the charm of the Girls, sound goes a long way, and the occasional downslides are easily forgiven.

Back on the Streets is the debut solo album by Northern Irish blues-rock guitarist Gary Moore.
The album is Moore's first authentic solo record (1973's Grinding Stone album being credited to The Gary Moore Band). Thin Lizzy bassist/vocalist Phil Lynott and drummer Brian Downey appear on four songs, including "Don't Believe a Word" (which originally appeared on the 1976 Thin Lizzy album Johnny the Fox) and the UK top 10 single "Parisienne Walkways". On the album's sleeve, Moore is depicted leaving notorious prison Wormwood Scrubs in the Inner London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in a photograph by Chalkie Davies.

In the second half of the 1960s, New Zealand musicians departed with some regularity for London, the pop capital of the world. None were as successful there as The Human Instinct, who as the Four Fours, had already cut a steady, if unspectacular, pop path around the top half of the North Island.
The Four Fours were never the hippest group, but they were seasoned live performers, studio experienced and adaptable, with a strong pop sense and three fine vocalists in guitarists Dave Hartstone and Bill Ward and young drummer Maurice Greer. The group was completed by bass player Frank Hay.
Arriving in England in August 1966 as The Human Instinct, they quickly signed a recording contract with Mercury Records before switching to Deram Records in 1967. They began performing regularly around Great Britain in 1968 with the likes of The Move, The Spencer Davis Group and The Small Faces.
Home again in April 1968, the original Human Instinct split. Drummer and vocalist Maurice Greer retained the name. Greer drafted in Billy TK from Palmerston North’s The Sinners for an unsuccessful return to London.
Back in New Zealand The Human Instinct recorded a series of strong selling New Zealand albums: Burning Up Years (1969), Stoned Guitar (1970) and Pins In It (1971) and they toured Australia in mid-1971.
Two more albums on Zodiac Records – Snatmin Cuthin (1972) and The Hustler (1974) – followed, although neither sold particularly well. The Hustler in particular is regarded as a fine example of blues tinged country rock.
The Human Instinct would remain a feature on New Zealand stages well into the 1980s, with an ever-changing line-up always revolving around drummer Maurice Greer, who resurrects the group periodically to this day, playing festivals and shows in the 2000s.

Fish became widely known as the lead singer and lyricist of the neo-progressive rock band Marillion from 1981 until 1988. He released 11 UK Top 40 singles with the band, including the Top Ten singles "Kayleigh", "Lavender" and "Incommunicado", and five Top Ten albums, including a number-one with Misplaced Childhood. In his solo career, Fish has explored contemporary pop and traditional folk, and released a further five Top 40 singles and a Top 10 album.
Fish's voice has been described as both "distinct" and a "conflation of Roger Daltrey and Peter Gabriel", while his lyrics have been praised as "poetic prose". In 2004, Classic Rock ranked Fish at number 49 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Frontmen", describing his "theatrical delivery" as "a major factor in Marillion's spectacular rise, and he masterminded some uniquely ornate lyrical concepts." In 2009, Fish was voted at number 37 in a poll of the greatest voices in rock music by Planet Rock listeners.
In 2020, Fish released his final studio album Weltschmerz (German for "world-weariness"), to positive reviews and commercial success.

French progressive rock band consisting of members Christian Clairefond, Henri Garella, Jean-Pierre Alarcen, Michel Jullien
Henri Garella (keyboards) and Christian Clairefond (bass) went through various studio works as steppingstones to their musical career - e.g. Les Gardians, supporting the tour of Claude Francois in 1965. Only playing a role in supporting famous artists could not satisfy them and with this ambition Henri, Christian, and Michel Jullien (drums) whom they happened to meet in Marseilles, formed a jazz-rock outfit Les Golden, the roots of EDEN ROSE.
An artistic director of a small label named Katema introduced them to Jean-Pierre Alarcen (guitars), already renowned as a talented session guitarist in France, and at that point EDEN ROSE could give a first cry. At first Jean-Pierre played as a guest musician for recording their first single 'Travelling/Under The Sun' (1970) but could formally be a member of EDEN ROSE after releasing it.
Their first full album 'On The Way To Eden' (1970), recorded as a studio live one, is based upon the jazz-psych rock with full of keyboard and organ solo, played by Henri, the frontman. Anyway, surprisingly Jean-Pierre could master all songs for a few days, and with the terrific talent he led SANDROSE, the succeeding outfit of EDEN ROSE, to an unequivocal French Symphonic Prog Band.
Sadly their relationship with the producer could not go well on the recording and the problem make them break up a while later. They played a key role in forming SANDROSE in 1971 and the rosy story should be continued …

Shape Shifter is the twenty-second studio album (thirty-sixth album overall) by Santana. It was released on May 14, 2012. This album is the first from his new record label Starfaith Records,[5] which is distributed by Sony Music Entertainment, owners of all of Santana's albums (except those recorded for Polydor Records which are owned by Universal Music Group).[6] It is also the first album since 1992's Milagro that does not feature guest singers in any of the songs, a style that characterized Santana's albums since Supernatural. The album contains only one song with vocals ("Eres La Luz").[7] The track "Mr. Szabo" is a homage to the Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo, one of Carlos Santana's early idols, who released a series of 8 albums for Impulse Records between 1966 and 1967; the track features a similar rhythmical and harmonic structure to "Gypsy Queen", a Szabo recording from 1966 covered by Santana in 1970 as a medley with Fleetwood Mac's "Black Magic Woman".

Gryphon are an English progressive and medieval folk rock band formed in London in 1972. They are known for their medieval and Renaissance style of music. The band briefly flourished in the progressive rock heyday of the early 1970s.
Gryphon formed in early 1972 as a four-piece band by English musicians Graeme Taylor, Richard Harvey, Dave Oberle, and Brian Gulland. Harvey and Gulland were graduates of the Royal College of Music in London who started an acoustic band, using their classically trained backgrounds to perform a mixture of English folk music, contemporary rock, medieval and Renaissance music. The duo were joined by guitarist Graeme Taylor and drummer Dave Oberle shortly after, thus becoming the first line-up of Gryphon. They soon signed a recording deal with the folk label Transatlantic Records and secured Nick Wright as their manager. The band's first live gig took place at the Stone Parish Church in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, promoted by the town's Friars venue. Their publicist Martin Lewis described their sound: "Imagine Henry VIII in a rock'n'roll band – think Gryphon."

Mid-1970's German rock band from Munich, with a light progressive edge towards Audience or Wishbone Ash.
These were amongst the most dismissible mainstream of "progressive" rock bands from Munich, typical of the mid-1970's with a light progressive edge, in the German equivalent of the Audience cum Wishbone Ash type of vein.
Cherubin were a band from the early 70's German scene that is often lumped into the Krautrock genre, even though they are extremly American-Anglo sounding to me. This album is a strange combination of slightly progressive songs in a jazzy rock style, a bit like Karthago (with their heavy percussion arrangements), and West Coast hippy country rock, similar to bands like the Burritos, NRPS, Poco, Pure Prarie League, etc.
It's interesting to point out that the second song sounds, to me at least, like a blatant rip-off of the Youngbloods song "Darkness Darkness".
Listening to both Cherubin albums, it's obvious that these guys were top-notch musicians, which is confirmed by the list of artist that some of these guys played with in the years after the break-up of Cherubin: John Fogerty, Robert Palmer, Simon Phillips, Larry Coryell, Alphonso Mouson, Klaus Doldinger, Oakridge Boys, Boxcar Willie...
All-in-all, an interesting album that is worth having, but not really worth going out of your way to find. Just don't expect any sort of typical "Krautrock sound.
