Twisted Sister - Club Daze Volume 2: Live In The Bars (1999)

Year: 1999 (CD 2001)
Label: Spitfire Records (Germany), EDL EAG 407-2, SPITCD059
Style: Glam Metal, Hard Rock
Country: Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, U.S.

In 1999, Spitfire Records re-issued the group's back catalog, supplemented with previously unreleased tracks. This was followed by Club Daze Volume 1: The Studio Sessions, an album containing demo recordings from the pre-Under the Blade era, which has three songs that were written by French, this was the first time someone other than Snider was writing songs and Club Daze Volume 2: Live In The Bars, a live counterpart.

Club Daze Vol.2 continues the Twisted Sister reissue program on Armoury Records. The album features two songs (tracks 1 & 2) originally recorded for the Stay Hungry album in 1984 but never completed. The band went back into the studio in 2001 and finished them. Tracks 3 to 9 were recorded for a radio show on Halloween 1979 but never broadcast and the remaining tracks were taken from radio sessions for WLIR and WBAB. All this material has been remixed by Mark Mendoza and re-mastered for this release.

Whitesnake - Live In The Shadow Of The Blues [2CD] (2006)

Year: 24 November 2006 (CD Nov 27, 2006)
Label: Steamhammer Records (Germany), SPV 95700
Style: Hard Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 73:00, 71:07
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 534, 530 Mb

Charts: UK #141, AUT #64, FRA #177, GER #82, JPN #64.
This is one of the best live rock bands ever. This release as well as Live... In The Still of The Night can atest to that as can anyone who as ever seen this band live. You won't find any "I forgot how this solo goes" (Ace Frehley) or "I can't sing all of these lyrics without passing out" (Vince Neil) at a Whitesnake show. This is an excellent two disc summary of the bands catalog and the performance is fantastic. The four new songs with Aldrich on guitar are in the classic Whitesnake vein and are not just thrown together for this compilation. They are very strong tracks that sound like they could have come out of the Sykes/Vandenburgh era. I have only two minor complaints here. One, the price is a little excessive. Two, the sound on this live effort is just fine but it is not as good as the sound on Live....In The Still Of The Night. The sound here is a little more polished than needed but that's only realized after hearing Live.....In The Still Of The Night.

One of my fav live albums. All the hits are here and David Coverdalev vocals are stellar.
Cov has the great band of Reb Beach, Dough Aldrich, Marco Mendoza, Tommy Aldrdge and Tim Drury.
ALl excellent players in their own right. This band is extremeley tight and sound BIG! Anyone who never heard Whitesnake before it all here (with afew Cov classics from Deep Purple days) and there is a 4 new studio tracks as well.

Yello - Stella [4 bonus tracks] (1985)

Year: 29 January 1985 (CD Nov 2005)
Label: Universal Music (Europe), 06024 9830759
Style: Synth Pop, Techno Electronic
Country: Zurich, Switzerland
Time: 72:29
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 414 Mb

Stella is the fourth studio album by the Swiss electronic band Yello, first released in Germany, Switzerland and Austria on 29 January 1985, and in the UK and US in March 1985. It was the first album made by the band without founder member Carlos Peron, and with his departure the remaining duo of Boris Blank and Dieter Meier began to move away from experimental electronic sounds towards a more commercial synthpop and cinematic soundtrack style. As well as becoming the first album ever by a Swiss group to top the Swiss album chart, it was the band's breakthrough album internationally, helped by the success of the song "Oh Yeah", which gained the band worldwide attention the following year after it was prominently featured in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off and then a year later in The Secret of My Success.

Adrian Belew (ex King Crimson) - Op Zop Too Wah (1996)

Year: September 24, 1996 (CD Sep 24, 1996)
Label: Adrian Belew Presents (Europe), 7243 8 42151 2 5
Style: Experimental Pop, Electronic Rock
Country: Covington, Kentucky, U.S. (December 23, 1949)
Time: 56:02
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 382 Mb

Op Zop Too Wah is the tenth solo album by Adrian Belew. The original title was On with a close-up of an on/off switch as the cover. However, Belew noticed an English band, Echobelly, had released an album with the same title. Op Zop Too Wah comes from a series of nonsensical words Belew invented in high school with his friend, Mike Wilshire.
Following the indifferent reception given to Belew's previous album (the experimental The Guitar As Orchestra), Op Zop Too Wah is a return to more traditional songwriting. The album's mood is reminiscent of the more avant-garde approach carried out by The Beatles in the late 1960s on albums such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. "I Remember How To Forget" was originally recorded with King Crimson in 1994, but never released.
"...his best overall `pop' album yet....besides the usual winning, Beatles-inflected rockers...and craftily melodic ballads...there are also strong hints of Belew's non-pop output....the bruising riffs of `I Remember How To Forget' recall his work with King Crimson..."

Soft Machine - The Best Of Soft Machine - The Harvest Years (1995)

Year: 1995 (CD 1995)
Label: See For Miles Records (UK), C5MCD 623
Style: Jazz Rock, Fusion
Country: Canterbury, England
Time: 63:12
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 351 Mb

Compilation of Soft Machine during the Karl Jenkins era, 1975-1978. This disc cannot include material from 1981's "Land Of Cockayne" (the final Softs album) or "Rubber Riff" (apocryphal library music recorded in '76 but unissed until '94) as those were on different labels. So, while perhaps not definitive, this disc is a magnificent look at the Jenkins era Soft Machine nonetheless. Their three Harvest albums ("Bundles", "Softs" and "Alive And Well") are absolute masterpieces of the fusion genre and go well beyond; 'Soft Space', for instance, is an extremely early techno exercise that still remains as fresh today as it was in 1978. And the rest-- what can be said? Soft Machine never disappointed. Even the more 'ordinary' cuts on here cannot be declaimed. The Softs took the seed of what Miles was doing on "Bitches Brew" and planted it on "Third"; by "Six" the plant was growing and by the time of "Bundles" the flower was in bloom, and it never wilted. This is a flawless compilation, it couldn't be anything else. A great place to start with the band buit certainly not the place to end; each one of Soft Machine's albums, especially beginning with "Third" are essential.

Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship (Jefferson Airplane) - Blows Against The Empire (1970)

Year: November 1970 (CD 2005)
Label: RCA / Legacy Records (US), 82876 67974 2
Style: Folk Rock, Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock
Country: San Francisco, U.S. (March 17, 1941 - January 28, 2016)
Time: 70:03
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 397 Mb

Blows Against the Empire is a concept album by Paul Kantner, released in 1970 under the name Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship. It is the first album to use the "Starship" moniker, a name which Kantner and Grace Slick would later use for the band Jefferson Starship that emerged after Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen left Jefferson Airplane. From a commercial standpoint, it performed comparably to Jefferson Airplane albums of the era, peaking at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and receiving a RIAA gold certification. It was one of the first two albums to be nominated for a Hugo Award in the category of Best Dramatic Presentation.
Throughout the album, Slick's acoustic piano is highlighted. She has said that her chord-heavy technique at the time developed from watching session player Nicky Hopkins during his many recordings with the Airplane. Most of the tracks add standard rock instrumentation to her piano, including electric and acoustic guitars, drums and bass. Thick vocal harmonies backing Kantner and Slick in duet are a signature quality of many of the songs.
A notable exception is "The Baby Tree", which has Kantner singing to a solo banjo accompaniment by Jerry Garcia. "Sunrise" is Grace Slick's self-penned solo vocal showcase, in part a duet with herself thanks to multitracking. Here she is predominantly accompanied by Jack Casady playing bass in a series of overdubs. "Have You Seen the Stars Tonite?" features lush vocal harmonies over acoustic instruments with subdued electric guitar overlays. The acoustic parts throughout the second side are centered on Kantner's detuned 12-string guitar, using a tuning consisting of octaves and fifths of open C, which David Crosby has likened to the droning tones of bagpipes.
Two tracks of the side 2 suite consist entirely of sound effects simulating the starship engines and the flight through space. Scattered among the other songs of the Suite are heavily processed background vocal tracks and sound bites. During the hijack scene, an audio excerpt from the 1953 George Pal film version of War of the Worlds is used: a woman is heard to call out "Let me through!" followed immediately by the sound of a ray gun firing.

The Beau Brummels - Autumn Of Their Years (1964-1966) (1994)

Year: 1964-1966 (CD 1994)
Label: Big Beat Records (Germany), CDWIKD 127
Style: Beat, Rock, Pop
Country: San Francisco, California, U.S.
Time: 63:37
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 347 Mb

The album consists of 26 songs recorded by the band during their stint at Autumn Records, including previously unreleased demos and outtakes.
Autumn of Their Years features 26 songs recorded by the Beau Brummels from 1964 to 1966. The compilation contains unreleased songs and alternate takes from the band's Autumn Records period. Ten songs—including "She Sends Me", "Dream On", and "Love is Just a Game"—previously appeared on the 1982 Rhino collection From the Vaults, while the remainder of the album consists of sixteen unreleased tracks, including demo versions of the band's early singles "Laugh, Laugh", "Just a Little", and "Still in Love with You Baby".
Richie Unterberger of Allmusic wrote that the album has "a lot of fine moments, but actually a bit much for all but hardcore fans", and that "the best cuts ... were already available on From the Vaults". Regarding the previously unreleased demos, Unterberger said they "aren't as good, production-wise ... or material-wise", and called "Tomorrow Is Another Day" the highlight of the album, "showcasing Sal Valentino's rich and moving vocals".

Deep Purple - Made In Japan [Live 2CD. 25th Anniversary Ed.] (1972)

Year: 22 December 1972 (CD Feb 1998)
Label: EMI Records (Spain), 7243 4 94190 2 5
Style: Hard Rock, Classic Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 76:19, 65:03
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 533, 429 Mb

Made in Japan is a double live album by English rock band Deep Purple, recorded during their first tour of Japan in August 1972. It was originally released on 8 December 1972 in Japan, with a US release on 30 March 1973, and became a commercial and critical success.
The band were well known for their strong stage act, and had privately recorded several shows, or broadcast them on radio, but were unenthusiastic about recording a live album until their Japanese record company decided it would be good for publicity. They insisted on supervising the live production, including using Martin Birch, who had previously collaborated with the band, as engineer, and were not particularly interested in the album's release, even after recording. The tour was successful, with strong media interest and a positive response from fans.
The album was an immediate commercial success, particularly in the US, where it was accompanied by the top five hit "Smoke on the Water", and became a steady seller throughout the 1970s. A three-CD set of most of the tour's performances was released in 1993, while a remastered edition of the album with a CD of extra tracks was released in 1998. In 2014, a deluxe edition was announced with further bonus material. The album received a strong critical reception and continues to attract praise. A Rolling Stone readers' poll in 2012 ranked Made in Japan the sixth best live album of all time.

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush - Live (1978)

Year: March 1978 (CD 1990)
Label: Columbia / Silver Cloud (US), CK 35257
Style: Hard Rock, Blues Rock
Country: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Time: 45:42
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 325 Mb

Mahogany Rush was a Canadian rock band led by guitarist Frank Marino. Formed in Montreal, Quebec in 1969, the band had its peak of popularity in the 1970s, playing venues as large as California Jam II.
The band is perhaps best known for Marino's soaring lead guitar which bears a strong resemblance to the playing of Jimi Hendrix. Long-term members of the band have included bassist Paul Harwood and drummer Jimmy Ayoub, and Frank's brother Vince on guitar; Frank Marino is the sole continuous member of the band. Starting in the late 1970s, the group recorded and toured as Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush.
In an effort to gain press attention, the original record company created a fictional story that Frank Marino, prior to starting the band, had spent time in a mental institution after taking LSD and was visited by Jimi Hendrix in a vision.
Over time, the band migrated to a larger and more financially supported record company and achieved its greatest radio hit success with the song "Strange Dreams". The single "A New Rock & Roll" reached #70 on the Canadian charts.

Dust - Dust (1971)

Year: January 1971 (CD 1994)
Label: One Way Records (Canada), OW 29309
Style: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Country: New York City, U.S.
Time: 39:46
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 255 Mb

Dust was formed in 1969 by Richie Wise and two teenagers, Kenny Aaronson and Marc Bell. The trio's producer and manager, Kenny Kerner, also wrote the group's lyrics. Their eponymous debut album was released on Kama Sutra Records in 1971, followed by a sophomore release, Hard Attack, issued on the same label the following year. Although Wise began writing material for a third album, the band dissolved due to lack of promotion and Wise's interest in producing.
While the group only released these two albums, they later became of historical interest to collectors of early American heavy metal.

Dire Straits - Live At The BBC [recorded 22 July 1978] (1995)

Year: 26 June 1995 (CD 1995)
Label: Vertigo Records (Germany), 528 323-2
Style: Pop Rock, Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 46:01
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 299 Mb

Charts: UK #71, AUS #98, FRA #13, NED #15, SWI #45.
Live at the BBC is a live album by British rock band Dire Straits, released on 26 June 1995 on Vertigo Records internationally, and by Warner Bros. Records in the United States. The album was recorded on 22 July 1978 at BBC Studios in London, with one track recorded on 31 January 1981. The studio versions of the first six songs were released on Dire Straits. Live at the BBC was the band's third live album, preceded by Alchemy: Dire Straits Live (1984) and On the Night (1993).
Live at the BBC consists of eight songs, the first seven recorded for the BBC Live in Concert series on 22 July 1978. The eighth song, "Tunnel of Love", was recorded for the BBC TV program The Old Grey Whistle Test on 31 January 1981.
The album features one unreleased song, "What's the Matter Baby?", co-written by Mark Knopfler and his brother David. It is the only song to appear on a Dire Straits album not written exclusively by Mark Knopfler; while two other Dire Straits songs list Knopfler sharing writing credits — "Tunnel of Love" from Making Movies (with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II) and "Money for Nothing" from Brothers in Arms (with Sting) — but in both cases the song itself was entirely written by Knopfler, with only a small contribution to the backing or arrangement by the other credited artist. The riffs and general structure of "What's the Matter Baby?" were largely recycled for the song "Lady Writer" from the band's second album Communique, which may explain why it was never re-recorded in the studio.

Jefferson Starship (Jefferson Airplane) - Earth (1978)

Year: March 1978 (CD 1997)

Style: Pop Rock
Country: San Francisco, California, U.S.

US: Platinum.
The band's previous album Spitfire had been a great success, producing a No. 12 hit in "With Your Love" and going platinum, followed by a successful summer tour. In November 1976 singer Grace Slick married Skip Johnson, the group's former lighting director, which caused some tension in the group since she had previously been with guitarist Paul Kantner for seven years prior, birthing their daughter China Kantner. In addition, singer Marty Balin was hesitant to tour with the group throughout 1977, causing the other band members to blame him for loss of revenue; David Freiberg was quoted in Rolling Stone saying "...we aren’t playing enough. I don’t like to sit at home and have to exercise all the time just to make my hands work." Balin also gave a contentious interview with Crawdaddy that January in which he stated "The Starship isn't big enough to keep me busy...I refuse to work with imbeciles anymore" and was especially harsh on Slick, claiming "she reminds me of my mother--she's not sexy" and that he was proud that he'd been the only member of Jefferson Airplane who had refused her advances. Balin later claimed his quotes had been taken out of context and to prove no hard feelings, eventually agreed to recording another Starship album in the summer of 1977, with a tour to follow afterward.

Soft Machine - Bundles (1975)

Year: March 1975 (CD 1990)
Label: See For Miles Records (UK), SEE CD 283
Style: Jazz Rock, Fusion
Country: Canterbury, England
Time: 42:01
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 225 Mb

By the time of Bundles, most of Soft Machine's members had previously been part of the jazz-rock band Nucleus, the exception being keyboardist Mike Ratledge, who at this point was the only remaining original member of Soft Machine. Guitarist Allan Holdsworth's prominent contributions set the album apart from previous Soft Machine recordings, which rarely featured guitar.[1]
Bundles is the band's last full studio album recorded with Ratledge.[1] Only two compositions by him are included, one of which is less than two minutes long. He left the band during the early sessions for the next album Softs, leaving the band with no original members.

David Lee Roth (Van Halen) - A Little Ain't Enough (1991)

Year: January 15, 1991 (CD 1991)
Label: Warner Bros. Records (US), 7599-26477-2
Style: Hard Rock
Country: Bloomington, Indiana, U.S. (October 10, 1954)
Time: 53:10
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 384 Mb

Charts: US #18, AUS #26, CAN #21, FIN #1, GER #12, NL #30, NOR #9, JP #17, SWE #11, SWI #5, UK #4. UK: Silver; US & CAN: Gold.
A Little Ain't Enough is the third full-length studio album by David Lee Roth, released on January 15, 1991, through Warner Music Group. It was certified gold on April 11, 1991. Produced by Bob Rock, the album featured the lead guitar work of Jason Becker, a then up-and-coming guitarist who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's disease) a week after joining the band. He managed to finish recording the album, but was unable to tour in support of the album, as his condition left him with little strength in his hands.
The album marked the beginning of Roth's commercial decline, given the drop-off in sales from his prior two albums. During the year of the album's release, the Seattle grunge movement was beginning a sea change in rock, and Roth's brand of glam metal was considered, by mainstream audiences, obsolete. Although the album went out of print on the Warner Bros. label in 1996, it was reissued (in remastered form) in 2007 through the Friday Music label.

Dio - Holy Diver - Live [2CD] (2006)

Year: April 17, 2006 (CD 2006)
Label: Eagle Records (US), ER 20088-2
Style: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Country: Cortland, New York, U.S.
Time: 60:44, 53:06
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 406, 364 Mb

Dio's voice has its ups and downs. He’s awfully hoarse on some songs on the first disc (the title track especially), but he’s awesome on others (especially when you remember he’s over 60. The band is in fine form throughout, with "Gypsy" and "Shame on the Night" containing drum and guitar solos, respectively, which are lengthy but remain interesting throughout. Disc 2 was my favorite part; it contains two songs from Dio’s sophomore effort "The Last in Line", as well as covers from his stints with Rainbow and Black Sabbath. Another part I enjoyed was the end of the song "Gypsy" after the drum solo; a pre-recorded version of Holst’s "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity" bursts out and the drummer plays along with it. It has to be one of the silliest moments in metal that I’ve ever experienced, but I love silliness in metal so it’s all fine with me. This wouldn’t be the best place to start with Dio (stick to the original Holy Diver for that), but fans of his work will enjoy this album.
(metal-archives.com/reviews/Dio/Holy_Diver_Live/113688/) Review by metaljerks. February 21st, 2009
Dio's "Holy Diver Live" is by no means a landmark in music history. The album is average, and contains its good and bad points. The first disc is just as explained with the title. It's Holy Diver, in its sequential entirety (for the most part) played live, and the second disc contains some of Dio's tunes from Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his solo career. The songs should not be foreign to anyone following Dio.
The sound quality is good, with relatively very little to criticize. All of the instruments can be heard clearly along with Dio. However, the pyrotechnics can be heard at some points (especially during "Heaven and Hell"), and sometimes when the audience is supposed to sing the lyrics they can’t be heard as well. The performance is excellent, save for a few points. Dio sounds very slightly hoarse on the "title" song but can still hit most of the notes. "Gypsy" was awesome, but would have been better if there was a seperation from the drum solo. The unaccompanied drum and guitar solos demonstrate talent, but are at the same time unremarkable. "Shame on the Night" is almost seventeen minutes long on this disc, drawn out too far. On "Sign of the Southern Cross" the intro is skipped, and the omission actually detracted from the quality of the composition. The live version of "Heaven and Hell" is about 12 minutes long, but works better than "Shame on the Night".
Overall, it’s well… average. Despite its drawbacks, it’s still a great album to listen to. I can very safely say that if I were present I’d have gladly screamed along with the masses. But unless you’re a Dio fan already, you’re not missing anything special.

Wishbone Ash - Bona Fide [Special Limited Edition] (2002)

Style: Hard Rock, Classic Rock
Country: Torquay, Devon, England

This is the Best ASH I have heard (and I have a great deal ) Since Argus...I saw the Argus Tour, It was one of the best shows I have ever seen, and I also saw them do Wishbone Ash 4. Bona Fide has some of that old Fire back the same edge that comes from the two guitars dueling on stage as in Argus and Pilgrimage ( they played a great many cuts from Pilgrimage on the ARGUS Tour ) I loved Pilgrimage and ended up playing it much more than ARGUS. I had Bona Fide in the Car for over a Week and played it the whole time everywhere I went. This has that same kind of sound that the Early UK based Band had I love this CD I only took it out for fear of getting sick of it. I can play a disc to death and so I avoid that after a while by changing things up even if I am into what is playing.

I have been Wishbone Ash fan since they began. Bona Fide ranks right up there as one of their best. The guitar work sizzles. Andy Powell and Ben Granfelt really know how to lay them down. As an added bonus the production quality of this disc is superb. If your an Ash fan and not sure or if you love to listen to GREAT and tasteful guitar work BUY THIS DISC!!! I got mine about a month ago and I play it every other day...can't get enough.

Style: Hard Rock
Country: Long Island, New York, U.S.
Time: 78:48
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz

Band History eng: Twin Peaks is the third live album by American hard rock band Mountain, released in February 1974 by Columbia and Windfall Records. It contains recordings from the band's performance at Koseinenkin Hall in Osaka, Japan on August 30, 1973. The album was produced by the band's bassist and second vocalist Felix Pappalardi, while the artwork was created by his wife and collaborator Gail Collins. It was Mountain's first release since returning after a year-long hiatus.
After breaking up for a year in the summer of 1972, Mountain returned with new members Bob Mann (guitar, keyboards) and Allan Schwartzberg (drums) joining Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi. The material for Twin Peaks was recorded on the subsequent Japanese tour, after which the new members left and original drummer Corky Laing returned. The album charted at number 142 on the US Billboard 200, which was the lowest position achieved by the band up to that point.
Mountain broke up in the summer of 1972, shortly after releasing its first live album Live: The Road Goes Ever On earlier in the year. Within a year the band had reunited, with original members Leslie West (guitar, vocals) and Felix Pappalardi (bass, vocals) joined by new members Bob Mann (guitar, keyboards) and Allan Schwartzberg (drums). The resulting Japanese tour – specifically, the August 30 performance at Koseinenkin Hall in Osaka – spawned the recordings for Twin Peaks, the group's second consecutive live album. The album is the only Mountain release to feature Mann and Schwartzberg, both of whom left shortly after the tour.
Twin Peaks was released in February 1974. It was issued as the band's first album with Columbia Records, in tandem with its regular label Windfall Records. By the time the album was released, original drummer Corky Laing had returned to Mountain, alongside new second guitarist David Perry.

Soft Machine - Land Of Cockayne (1981)

Year: March 1981 (CD 1996)
Label: One Way Records (US), S21-18936
Style: Jazz Rock, Fusion, Progressive Rock
Country: Canterbury, England
Time: 43:56
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz

Land of Cockayne is the tenth studio album by the jazz rock band Soft Machine, released in 1981. The title refers to the medieval land of plenty. It would be the last album released under the Soft Machine name until Hidden Details in 2018.
In 1979, Karl Jenkins, who had been a member of Soft Machine from May 1972 to the band's split in December 1978, was among a number of top session musicians put together for an ad hoc band called Rollercoaster, recording a Stevie Wonder tribute album called Wonderin' (1980). After that album was completed, a number of the Rollarcoaster musicians decided to record another album together, this time under the Soft Machine name. Some of the musicians involved in the project would be part of Soft Machine's next live line-up, which played a six-night residency at Ronnie Scott's in 1984.

On Every Street was released more than six years after the band's previous album, Brothers in Arms. On Every Street reached number 12 in the United States and number one in the United Kingdom and numerous European countries. The album was produced by Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits.
By this time, the band comprised Knopfler, John Illsley, Alan Clark and Guy Fletcher, and the album features session musicians including Chris White, Paul Franklin, Phil Palmer, Danny Cummings and American drummer Jeff Porcaro from Toto, who was asked to play the band's subsequent world tour, although he declined because of other commitments, both with Toto and as a studio musician.
Dire Straits promoted the album with a 14 month long world tour which comprised 216 shows in Europe, North America, and Australia, sold 7.1 million tickets, and lasted from August 1991 to October 1992. This was documented in the group's second live album, On the Night, which was recorded in May 1992 at Les Arenes in Nimes, France, and at Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and was released in May 1993.
Dire Straits disbanded permanently in 1995, after which Mark Knopfler pursued a solo career.

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (1985)

Style: Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 55:14
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 279 Mb

Except for their swell debut hit single, "Sultans of Swing," in 1979, the British band Dire Straits has never come as much of a surprise. And, then, what caught you off guard was how much the singer sounded like Dylan. Brothers in Arms, their first studio album since Love over Gold three years ago, offers more of their winsomely rocking tunes. The band is augmented by bassist Tony Levin, Weather Report drummer Omar Hakim, a horn section, which includes the Brecker Brothers, and some thirteen different keyboards that are used to explore orchestral textures. Carefully crafted instead of raucous, pretty rather than booming, and occasionally affecting, the record is beautifully produced, with Mark Knopfler’s terrific guitar work catching the best light. The lyrics are literate, but the scenarios aren’t as interesting as they used to be on records like Making Movies, still the band’s most solid LP.
Side one has the most driving songs: the bouncy "Walk of Life," a Fifties rock & roll song about cool Fifties rock & roll songs that features a cheesy organ sound, and "So Far Away," a missive from a distant town, with a catchy bass line rumbling underneath it. After a grandiose introduction, "Money for Nothing" shows what a guy who moves refrigerators for a living thinks of the rock stars on MTV. "See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup/Yeah buddy that’s his own hair/That little faggot got his own jet airplane/That little faggot he’s a millionaire," the guy mutters, while Knopfler’s guitar grinds out his irritation. The guitar turns delicate for the gentle "Why Worry," a song that’s as soft as a sigh.
Side two, made up of four songs about men and war, is more ambitious and less successful. Knopfler practically whispers the lyric to "Brothers in Arms" but never turns out images that catch your eye; the music’s lovely, though, with the electric guitar cutting patterns in a soft-toned background. But no telling metaphors are found in this quartet of songs, and the music lacks the ache that made Knopfler’s recent soundtracks for Comfort and Joy and Cal so powerful.
