The Friends of Mr Cairo is the second album by Jon and Vangelis, released in 1981. There are two editions of the album, with different sleeves. Both were released in 1981 within a few weeks of each other. The title track, "The Friends of Mr Cairo", peaked at No. 1 on the Canadian singles chart in late 1981, though the track was not a hit elsewhere. The second edition of the album includes the single "I'll Find My Way Home", which according to Anderson was added in response to poor initial sales of the album, and which stayed in the Swiss charts for 14 weeks and peaked at No. 1 on 7 March 1982. It also peaked at No. 6 in the UK. The album was #2 in Canada for 3 weeks, and was #15 in the Best of 1981. "State of Independence" was later a hit single for Donna Summer, and a decade later for Moodswings with Chrissie Hynde on vocal. Anderson also later re-recorded that song on his solo album Change We Must, released in 1994.
The title track and its accompanying music video serve as an ode to classic Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s, including references to the classic film noir The Maltese Falcon. Joel Cairo (Mr Cairo) is the character played by Peter Lorre in The Maltese Falcon. The track incorporates sound effects and voice impressions of the stars of the era, most notably Lorre, Humphrey Bogart, Sydney Greenstreet, and Jimmy Stewart.

Paddy Goes To Holyhead - Supermegaultraliveshow (Live) (1993)

Year: 1993 (CD 1993)
Label: Rockwerk Records (Germany), PGTH 2
Style: Folk Rock, Celtic Folk
Country: Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany
Time: 65:57
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 431 Mb

The story - so far. Once upon a time. It all began in December 1984 when a bunch of friends about to celebrate their birthdays decided they would have a party. There was a suggestion of having a disco; no I cried out, you've got to have a live band. Where do we get one at such short notice they said," I'll get one", I said. I rang around all my musician friends and within a couple of days we had a band. Now we had the band, what about a name? Sandra, a Canadian girl I was seeing at the time, suggested, as there were three Irishmen involved, why not call it Paddy Goes To Holyhead!
The line up on that night was Danny Hynes Lead Vocals, Mal McNulty Guitar/Vocals, Jimmy Gaynor Guitar/Vocals, Brendan Finglas Bass & Herman Drums.
Plus a variety of other players who got up and did one or two numbers. It went so well that I thought; maybe I should do a few more gigs, while awaiting release from previous contracts. We did a few one-off shows over the following months before Jimmy & Brendan, the other two Irishmen, moved on to pursue other projects. I then decided that Paddy would be a FUN band; doing the songs I liked and with musicians with a similar outlook, serious players but with tongue firmly-in-cheek!
During this time Andy Scott, who I'd become friends with a few years earlier when he produced some demos for my previous band Weapon, would occasionally come along to a gig a guest with us. 1986 and I was having so much fun with the band I decided it was time to get it down on tape. I asked Andy if he would like to produce the sessions.
So with the line up of Mal McNulty, Jeff Brown, Bruce Bisland,Phil Lanzon, then of Sweet and now Uriah Heep, on keyboards we went into London Bridge Studios record The Green Green Grass of Home. Andy also played guitar and sang backing vocals. It was then I invited him to join the band on a more permanent basis, which he did, until the reformed Sweet went back on the road full time. When he left he was replaced by Tino Troy (Praying Mantis) who I'd been friends with for many years. We worked this line up for a couple of years before we all parted company. I continued with Paddy while the rest of the guys formed The Wandering Crutchlees.
For a period of time I had several short-term line-ups using musicians whose regular bands were off the road.
These included Syd Twynham (Mud) and Bass players John Berry (Mud/Slade 2) Phil Spalding (Seal/Mick Jagger Band) and even the late great Mick Tucker (Sweet). Mick was member for about two months between May & June '89. Culminating in a headline show at the legendary Marquee Club, Charing Cross Rd, London on Saturday 20th May. The full line up that night was Pete Bullick Guitar/Vocals, Des Duffy Guitar/Vocals, Phil Spalding Bass/Vocals (and lots of energy!) & Mick Tucker Drums.
Paddy Goes To Holyhead is one of the few rock bands to have played at both the old and new Marquee Clubs. In July '89 Gareth Thomas and Ian Morgan were drafted in to replace Phil & Mick, who had returned to their proper jobs!
n September we were offered, and accepted, a two-month tour of Dubai. Des & Ian decided not to go, for personal reasons, so I invited Syd Twynham and along with session drummer Jan Alkema off we went. Ah the fun we! On our return Syd rejoined Mud who was about to go out on tour and Jan went back to teaching/session work, replaced by Heavy Metal Kids drummer Keith Boyce.
We carried on as a four-piece. Some months later Gareth Thomas decided he needed a change and was replaced by Terry Horbury. We continued working with this line up until 1992 when I invited Andy Burgess (guitar/vocals) to join, thus elevating the band to another level. In 1993 Pete & Keith got involved in recording and live work with Debbie Bonham, Pete would eventually go on to marry Debbie! As a lot of our work clashed, it was decided they would commit full time to Debbie's band. Replaced by John Fraser-Binnie guitar and, after a lot of stand-in drummers, Alf Main. With this line up we went into Surrey Sound Studios to record our debut album "Greatest Hits" (and other fairytales) produced by a young New Zealander named Simon Shazell. The album was released in August 1997. In March 1999 Johnny & Terry left, replaced by the Troy brothers, Tino & Chris adding a new dimension of sound and influence creating the most exciting Paddy line-up ever! Simon Jeffery replaced drummer Alf Main in 2003.
In early 2006 Simon's other projects meant he could no longer commit to Paddy. Whilst looking for a full time replacement the band have secured the services of a temporary drummer, American Benji Reid. Benji has a very impressive cv, having worked alongside the likes of Derek St Holmes (Ted Nugent vocalist) Deborah Bonham, Pat Cash, The Barnstormers, Doogie White (Former singer with Richie Blackmore's Rainbow) and John Lawton Band (former Uriah Heep vocalist) to name but just a few! He was also voted Best Drummer on the London club circuit at the 1999 'The Dog's Bollox' awards.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of playing with some of the finest musicians around. most of who I'm still on good terms with! Paddy Goes To Holyhead's first official show was on St Patrick's Day 17th March 1985 at The Greyhound, Fulham Palace Road, London and on that date in 2005 our 20th anniversary was celebrated !
March 2009 saw the band return to the studios to start work on a new album. To be released in late July.
Paddy Goes To Holyhead played their 1st 'offical' gig on St Patrick's Day, 17th March 1985 at The Greyhound, Fulham Palace Road, London W6. On that date in 2015 they will celebrate their 30th anniversary somewhere in London with, subject to availability, a selection of former members making guest appearances.

Tsee Mud...Bacro....LSD (1969-1971) (2012)

Year: 1969-1971 (CD 2012)

Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz

It may be possible that, until this release, these three names no longer sound familiar to lovers of South American underground music, but for any fan of good Venezuelan hard psych rock of the '60s and '70s, Bacro, Tsee Mud, and LSD are really special, well-known bands. Besides the other great album from Venezuela, Ladies WC, this release is as good and as important. The band only released a couple of singles and played a lot of great live concerts. These bands, with Jose Romero on guitar, changed names from LSD to Tsee Mud and to Bacro. In-between those bands, Jose lived in the USA and was part of The Del-Vikings, who played a concert at Madison Square Garden. Jose went back to Venezuela and continued playing with Bacro. All the tracks presented on this album here are extra-strong and heavy psychedelic with amazing fuzz guitar, vocals and lots of acid moves. A really wild album, all the way.

Mud - A's B's & Rarities (2004)

Year: 2004 (CD 2004)
Label: EMI Records (UK), 7243 5 60222 2 5
Style: Glam Rock
Country: Carshalton, Greater London, England
Time: 74:32
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 522 Mb

It seems strange to see the output of Mickie Most's RAK label finally being taken seriously by record labels as well as collectors, 30-plus years after the imprint established itself as the epitome of disposable pop tunes. Yet EMI's ongoing As, Bs & Rarities series offers nothing less than the same thorough treatment that any other, more hallowed, label could expect. The format is essentially the same throughout: a gathering up of every RAK single (A-sides and B-sides) released by a given band, with the remainder of the CD filled with choice outtakes and oddities -- an approach that the average Mud fan will relish. This is not the first time around for the bulk of the band's As and Bs -- the German Repertoire label long ago created a masterful two-CD set around the same theme. But they still missed one B-side, 1973's "Do You Love Me," which now makes its CD debut here, and besides, two CDs of Mud can be a daunting prospect for the average consumer. Hacking away the dead wood that preceded and followed the band's greatest-hits period, As, Bs & Rarities follows the band through the delirious three years that opened with "Crazy," closed with "One Night," and bristled amidships with some of the most effervescent singles of the early to mid-'70s: "Tiger Feet," "The Cat Crept In," "Lonely This Christmas." And some of the greatest B-sides, too. Some historical anomalies are corrected: "Moonshine Sally," an apparent return-to-form hit in 1975, opens this collection, to remind listeners that it was, in fact, recorded in 1972. A cover of "In the Mood," issued in 1974 under the not-altogether deceptive pseudonym of Dum, slips in, together with the song planned for the band's final RAK single, "Hula Love." No real rarities, then, and little that the compulsive Mud collector won't already own. But it's a great compilation all the same, and if you're looking to spend an hour or so feeling delightfully, extraordinarily, happy... this is for you.

Wings Paul McCartney - Back To The Egg [Vinyl Rip] (1979)

Year: 1979 (LP 1979)
Label: MPL Records (UK), PCTC 257, OC 064 62 799
Style: Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 42:18
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 263 Mb

Charts: UK #6, AUS #3, Austria #12, NZ #9, Spain #7, SWE #5, CAN #2, GER #16, ITA #10, JPN #7, NLD #11, NOR #5, US #8. US: Platinum, UK: Gold, CAN: 2? Platinum.
After ten Capitol albums with wife Linda, stalwart Denny Laine and various incarnations of Wings, McCartney jumped to Columbia last year in a multimillion-dollar deal that many thought would represent a new era for him musically. Despite the addition of Steve Holly on drums and Laurence Juber on guitar, Back to the Egg is just about the sorriest grab bag of dreck in recent memory.
Herewith, a sample of the words from the single, “Getting Closer”: “I’m getting closer, my Salamander/When will we be there? Oh no, don’t answer.” Mercifully, no lyric sheet is provided, but a throwaway scrap (what other kind of McCartney lyric is there?) from the above tune about a “radio playing a song with a point” sets an ironic tone for the entire LP. A veritable slide show of dead-end flights of fancy and yesterday’s dross, Back to the Egg doesn’t contain one cut that’s the least bit fleshed out or brought to any logical conclusion. In place of well-framed songs, we get an irritating display of disjointed images and unfocused musical snapshots. Titles are abundant (fourteen in all), but the content is largely regurgitant. “We’re Open Tonight” bears a strong resemblance to London Town‘s “I’m Carrying,” while “Winter Rose/Love Awake” recalls “Power Cut” on Red Rose Speedway. “After the Ball/Million Miles” is the obligatory tip of the McCartney hat to English music-hall tradition, but it’s vastly inferior to even such half-baked fluff as Venus and Mars‘ “You Gave Me the Answer.”

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N Roll [Japan Edition] (1981)

Year: November 18, 1981 (CD Dec 18, 2013)
Label: Blackheart Records (Japan), VICP-75123
Style: Rock, Hard Rock
Country: Pennsylvania, U.S. (September 22, 1958)
Time: 43:53
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 328 Mb

Charts: US #2, AUS #10, AUT #14, NOR #38, NZ #1, SWE #4, UK #25, CAN #1, DEN #7, FIN #13, GER #31. Australia - Platinum, Canada - 2x Platinum, New Zealand - Gold, US - Platinum.
I Love Rock 'n Roll it is Jett's most commercially successful album to date with over a million copies sold, largely due to the success of the title track, which was released as a single soon after the album was released.
Joan Jett saw "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" performed on TV by Arrows in 1976 and was taken away by the song. It was a staple of her set list for years before the album was recorded.
Along with the Arrows song, plenty of other covers populated the album: "Nag" (originally by the Halos),"Bits and Pieces" (the Dave Clark Five), "You're Too Possessive" (the Runaways), and "Crimson and Clover" (Tommy James & the Shondells). Of the last song, Jett later commented that "People worried that I didn't change the words in 'Crimson and Clover' to 'him' from 'her'. It was only because that wouldn't have rhymed."
Other covers appeared in limited editions: "Louie Louie" (Richard Berry, later performed by the Kingsmen) and "Summertime Blues" (Eddie Cochran) were included as bonus tracks on the CD release, and the traditional Christmas carol "Little Drummer Boy" was a seasonal addition to the LP.
"I Love Rock 'n Roll" was made at a vigorous pace. "During the weekdays we'd be in the studio and during the weekends we'd travel around the New York area, the Northeast, doing gigs," Jett recalled. "So we were doing both without really stopping. Which was good I thought, it really kept us together, it kept us sharp."

Mud – Mud Rock [Vinyl Rip] (1974)

Year: 1974 (LP 1974)
Label: Rak Records (UK), SRAK 508, OC 062 o 95739
Style: Glam Rock
Country: Carshalton, Greater London, England
Time: 39:23
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 255 Mb

Mud are an English glam rock band, formed in February 1966. Their earlier success came in a pop and then glam rock style, while later hits were influenced by 1950s rock and roll, and they are best remembered for their hit singles "Dyna-mite" , "Tiger Feet", which was the UK's best-selling single of 1974, and "Lonely This Christmas" which reached Christmas number 1 in December 1974. After signing to Rak Records and teaming up with songwriters/producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, the band had fourteen UK Top 20 hits between 1973 and 1976, including three number ones.
After years of unsuccessful singles, they were signed to Mickie Most's Rak label, and had three Top 20 successes in 1973 with "Crazy" (No. 12), "Hypnosis" (No. 16) and "Dyna-mite" (No. 4).
At the peak of their career, they also enjoyed British number one singles with "Tiger Feet"; and "Lonely This Christmas" (1974), an affectionate Elvis Presley pastiche; plus "Oh Boy" (1975), a cover of the Buddy Holly hit, which also featured on their album Mud Rock Volume 2. "Tiger Feet" sold over 500,000 copies in the UK and a million copies globally.
Like contemporaries Sweet, their most successful period came when their records were written and produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman: in 1975 they had seven singles in the UK Top 40 totalling over 45 weeks on the chart, the most by any artist in 1975. "Oh Boy" was the only number one single produced by Chinn and Chapman that they did not also write.
"Lonely This Christmas" gets seasonal airplay on British radio and television, (along with Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" and Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday"). The band also embraced the burgeoning disco craze, as exemplified on their 1976 single "Shake It Down" which reached No. 12 in the UK chart. After "Tiger Feet" they released "The Cat Crept In" which reached No. 2 in April 1974, which was written to exploit Les Gray's vocal impression of Presley. Their next single "Rocket" reached No. 6 in the UK, after which they released another track from their album Mud Rock, a cover of "In the Mood". This was released under the name of "Dum" ("Mud" spelt backwards), but it failed to chart.
After the success with "Lonely This Christmas", they cracked the Valentine's Day market with "The Secrets That You Keep", which reached No. 3 in February 1975. Around this time Mud wound up their contract with Rak releasing three further singles, "Oh Boy" (their third and final UK No. 1), "Moonshine Sally" (No. 10) and "One Night" (No. 32). Mud also split from Chinn and Chapman in mid-1975 and signed to Private Stock (licensed to Philips in Continental Europe). There they enjoyed three more British Top 20 hits within seven months: "L'L'Lucy" (No. 10), the ballad "Show Me You're a Woman" (No. 8) and the disco-influenced track "Shake It Down" (No. 12). The latter two singles saw them gradually moving away from glam rock, which was now unfashionable. Keyboardist Andy Ball, formerly of Candlewick Green, joined the band briefly during this period, to be replaced in early 1978 by Brian Tatum.

Vangelis - Opera Sauvage (soundtrack) (1979)

Year: 1979 (CD 1990)
Label: Polydor Records (U.S.), 829 663-2 Y-1
Style: Instrumental, Electronic, Ambient
Country: Agria, Greece (29 March 1943 - 17 May 2022)
Time: 43:04
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 190 Mb

Opera Sauvage is a soundtrack album by the Greek electronic composer Vangelis, released in 1979. It is the score for the nature documentary of the same title by French filmmaker Frederic Rossif. It is considered one of Vangelis' best albums, and is his second most successful album in the USA, reaching #42 in the album charts.
Vangelis produced this album during his electro-acoustic period, which was one of the most productive in his musical career. Opera Sauvage is more akin to his classic sound than his earlier nature scores for the same director, Frederic Rossif, such as L'Apocalypse des animaux and La Fete sauvage. A later collaboration with Rossif in the style of Opera sauvage was Sauvage et Beau.
Vangelis plays several synthesizers, piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano (featured extensively on "Reve"), drums, percussion, xylophone, as well as acoustic & bass guitar ("Chromatique"). Jon Anderson is credited with playing harp on "Flamants Roses".
The album is full of classical-based and warm melodies, orchestrated with Yamaha CS-80 sounds. "Hymne", "L'Enfant", "Mouettes" and "Irlande" build on fairly simple themes that are developed instrumentally. "Reve" is, indeed, as the title suggests, a dreamy calm piece with the hint of jazz in the climax. "Chromatique" has a chromatic instrumental line with chords on an acoustic guitar. "Flamants Roses", finally, consists of several parts, from slow to upbeat, and finishing off with a bluesy finale; Jon Anderson features prominently on harp.

The SHIVER is known as one of the most legendary (and mysterious) Swiss psychedelic rock quintets in late 1960s. "Walpurgis" originally released in 1969 via an independent label Maris Musik is renowned as an LP covered in a weird sleeve drawn by H.R. Giger. In 2004 "Walpurgis" has been reissued as a CD with three bonus tracks via Garden Of Delights.
Occult themes in popular rock music were nonexistent until the year 1967 when The Beatles decided to include Aleister Crowley on the jam-packed but obviously symbolic album cover of 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club.'
Included in this eclectic mix of occult themed bands is the relatively obscure Swiss band THE SHIVER which released its sole artifact WALPURGIS in 1969 and displayed the very first album cover to feature the macabre art of Swiss artist H.R. Giger. The title WALPURGIS is thought of as an ancient Pagan holiday or the spring equivalent of Halloween but in modern times is better known as the holy time of the year for the Satanic cults that worship Molech and other dark forces like Lucifer or Satan. They perform human sacrifices in order to pay the evil spirits so that they can do the bidding of those who seek greater powers from the evil forces. Like many of these early proto bands, THE SHIVER never explicitly engaged in such promotion of the occult but rather flirted with its existence through its lyrics and visual imagery in the context of the contemporary popular sounds of the era.

Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) - Slide On This (1992)

Year: 8 September 1992 (CD 1992)
Label: Continuum Records (U.S.), 19210-2
Style: Rhythm and Blues, Rock
Country: Hillingdon, England (1 June 1947)
Time: 59:21
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 410 Mb

While Ronnie did have a more or less independent solo career, unlike Keith Richards or Mick Jagger whose solo careers were rather, er, rudimentary and always reeked of the true Stones' spirit, it wasn't until Slide On This that he fully demonstrated all his possibilities: he grew up, oldened and wisened, burned out and came back, and delivered a set of songs which should definitely rank among his best. In fact, while I haven't yet heard any previous albums of his, I'd be amazed if any of them turned out to be better.
On a normal, 'technical' level, there ain't really nothing special about Slide On This. What Ronnie does is basically write up a series of simplistic R'n'B melodies and cover some older standards, and that's about it. There's nothing groundbreaking or particularly interesting about this kind of music in 1992, unless, of course, you want to count such gimmicks as string arrangements sometimes overdubbed over plain rock'n'roll numbers innovative. And thus, when I first listened to the record, I couldn't help but feel bored: after all, why not put on Voodoo Lounge instead?
Nay, friends and countrymen. I was wrong. Remember, always remember that Ronnie Wood is not just a second-rate Rolling Stone; Ronnie is just as well a first-rate Face. And the Faces always had that magical power to charm you with their restless energy, booze and grittiness even when the actual melodies were non-existent. Well, now that Ronnie Lane is gone and Rod Stewart is mutated, Ronnie Wood carries on the legacy. And thus, when I listened to the record for the second time, I couldn't help but feel totally enthralled. To hell with Voodoo Lounge; in places, the ferocious rock'n'roll of Slide On This makes the Nineties' Stones sound like pathetic wimps, much like Rod Stewart himself.

Light Of Darkness - Light Of Darkness (1970)

Year: 1970 (CD 1992)
Label: Second Battle (Germany), SB 019
Style: Hard Rock, Progressive Rock
Country: Scotland / Germany
Time: 44:31
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 279 Mb

The little-known Scottish band Light of Darkness consisted of Mike Reoch (bass, flute, piano, harmonica), Byron Grant (guitars, fiddle), John Latimer (vocals, piano, organ, percussion), and German drummer Manfred Bebert. They were based in Hamburg, Germany, and their only record was released by the German label Phillips in 1970. This self-titled debut album is in a kind-of progressive blues-rock style, highlighted by Latimer's odd voice and an energetic cover of Tony Joe White's "Soul Francisco." However, critics at that time dismissed the record as being directionless; the record-buying public ignored the LP and after a couple of concerts, Light of Darkness disbanded. Today, their only recording has become a minor cult classic and a collector's item. Unfortunately, the bandmembers disappeared and never recorded again. Before Light of Darkness, both Reoch and Grant had been in a band called Mike Reoch and the Tremors (together with Dennis Morrison and Don Stuart), and released an album called "Internationale Evergreens" on Elite Special in the 1960s.

Joan Jett - Bad Reputation [Japan Edition] (1981)

Year: January 23, 1981 (CD Dec 18, 2013)
Label: Blackheart Records (Japan), VICP-75122
Style: Punk Rock, Hard Rock
Country: Pennsylvania, U.S. (September 22, 1958)
Time: 52:27
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 392 Mb

Charts: Australian Albums #45, Canada Top Albums #76, US Billboard 200 #51.
Bad Reputation is the debut solo studio album by American recording artist Joan Jett. It was originally released independently on May 17, 1980 as a self-titled album after her previous band The Runaways disbanded. After Jett signed with Boardwalk Records, the album was re-released worldwide with the new title on January 23, 1981. The album was positively received by critics and reached number 51 on the Billboard 200.
Reviewing Bad Reputation in 1981, Robert Christgau of The Village Voice said, "Producers Kenny Laguna and Ritchie Cordell make the old glitter formula of readymade riffs 'n' blare sound suitable for albums, and they get plenty of help from reformed Runaway Jett, who has writing credit on four of these twelve tunes and comes on tuffer than any gurl in history." Tom Carson of Rolling Stone found that Bad Reputation "is flawed by its literal-mindedness - the arrangements pump along gamely yet rarely swing or soar - and by some unresourceful material", but concluded that "in its mood and feel", the album "is a determined retelling of what sometimes seems like the truest rock story there is."
In a retrospective review, AllMusic critic Steve Huey described Bad Reputation as "an infectious romp through her influences, ranging from classic '50s and '60s rock & roll through glam rock, three-chord loud'n'fast Ramones punk, and poppier new wave guitar rock." Rolling Stone placed Bad Reputation at No. 36 on its list of the "50 Coolest Albums of All Time" in 2002.
