Manny Oquendo (January 1, 1931 - March 25, 2009) was an American percussionist of Puerto Rican ancestry. His main instruments were the timbales and the bongos.[1]
He was a long-time member of Eddie Palmieri's Conjunto La Perfecta, which he left in the 1970s to co-lead the Conjunto Libre.

Manny Oquendo began percussion studes in 1945 and gained drumming experience with the rings of Carlos Valero, Luis del Campo, Juan “Un Youngster” Torres, Jose Budet, Juanito Sanabria, Marcelino Guerra, Jose Curbelo and Pupi Campo before starting to be Tito Puente’s bongo participant in 1950. Four years afterwards Oquendo was with Tito Rodriquez with Vicentico Valdes in 1955. For the next six years, Oquendo freelanced and documented for New York’s best rings. In 1962 he resolved using the Eddie Palmieri orchestra. Before 1974 finished, Oquendo’s Conjunto Libre happened. Oquendo obtained world-wide reputation in 1983 along with his documenting of “Small Sunflower,” regarded one of the better recordings of the entire year.
