Label: Epic / Sony Records (Japan), ESCA 5418

Fifth feels empty.
"All white" is a good opener, although I feel like the intro of the song drags on a little bit
"Drop" is my favorite track as it actually feels like an original fresh idea, the water droplets accompanied by the piano really add to the atmosphere until it breaks out in an exciting jazz fusion composition
"M.C" is..... empty, I suppose it's mostly the drums that carry the track, but it feels so empty, and the insane reverb on the drums do not help.
"As If" feels also like something is missing, while being longer, and more fletched out, it feels less memorable, and more like an improv filler on the album.
"L.B.O" is just straight up filler, 2 minutes of Drums.... that's it.....
"Pigling Bland" is good! Though I'm starting to feel like it's rushed... the track starts out fine, builds up to something epic and exciting, and then just stops...
"Bone" is... Empty, this time being a piece of ambient... that feels out of place on the album...
Yeah, overall, I feel like the first half of the album is good, but I can't shake off the idea that the recordings were very unfocused.
I've read how the first half of Fifth had a new drummer and that the second half has a different drummer, and I can take a good guess that the departure of Robert Wyatt definitely left a lasting impression on Mike and Hugh as they were trying to find their own in this new sound.
Overall, I have mixed feelings for this album.
